Bjoern Werner Scouting Report

Bjoern Werner strengthened his case to be the first defensive end drafted in April with a strong pro day Tuesday.

One of the year’s biggest pro days took place Tuesday at Florida State. The pro day was streamed on ESPN3, and there were more than 50 NFL scouts, coaches and executives in attendance representing all 32 teams, according to the broadcast.

The New England Patriots are clearly among the teams with an interest in at least one Florida State prospect, as offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was in attendance Tuesday.

2013 NFL Mock Draft: Post-Combine Projections

Sheldon Richardson NFL Draft

Sheldon Richardson has moved way up the board to the No. 1 overall spot in this week’s mock draft. (

The draft picture looks a whole lot different after the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine than it did going in.

The projected No. 1 overall pick in last week’s mock draft, Utah defensive tackle Star Lotulelei, was red flagged at the combine for a heart condition, which caused him to drop from the top spot. Meanwhile, the potential for West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith to take the top spot also became very unlikely when reports came forward Wednesday that the Kansas City Chiefs are trading their second-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers for quarterback Alex Smith.

How did those events, as well as all the players who made a bigger name for themselves at the combine, affect the picture in this mock draft, now less than two months away from the 2013 NFL draft? Read through the following pages to find out.

2013 NFL Draft Scouting Notes: Florida State vs. Northern Illinois

Bjoern Werner Orange Bowl

The Orange Bowl didn’t turn out to be among the better games of New Year’s Day, but truthfully, it lived up to the expectations of many. The Northern Illinois Huskies earned a BCS berth as the result of a 12-win season in the Mid-American Conference, but against their toughest opponent of the year in the Florida State Seminoles, they were overmatched athletically on both sides of the ball.

There were some NFL prospects worth watching in this game, and as it turned out, it was a couple of late-round picks who stole the slow: Florida State running back/fullback Lonnie Pryor, who was named the game’s MVP after a 134-yard, two-touchdown performance, and linebacker Vince Williams, who made plays throughout the game and all over the field.

2013 NFL Draft: Potential Patriots in the Orange Bowl

The Orange Bowl has the potential to be a very lopsided affair, but that won’t stop it from being one of the most anticipated games of the bowl season. College football traditionalists who favor major programs will be pulling for the Florida State Seminoles to win in dominating fashion, while those who root for underdogs will be hoping the Northern Illinois Huskies make history for the Mid-American Conference with one of the biggest upsets in BCS history.

Draftniks will also enjoy watching this game, as it features one of the 2013 NFL draft’s best overall prospects: Florida State defensive end Bjoern Werner, a likely top-5 draft pick. Werner isn’t the only prospect worth watching in the New Year’s Day nightcap.

2013 NFL Draft Scouting Notes: Florida State vs. Clemson

Monday, September 24th, 2012

Tank Carradine was a BEAST all game vs. Clemson.

NEPD Editor: Mike Loyko

The marquee match-up in college football this week features two top ten ACC teams that are loaded with NFL talent. The Florida State defense alone should have at least five or six players drafted in the 2013 Draft. Clemson lost a talented senior class to the NFL but, has it’s own share of talent. The Tigers boast one of the top Senior RB’s in the nation in Andre Ellington.

This is a critically important game for both programs. Which prospects shined in the national spotlight and elevated their draft stock? How did Andre Ellington fare against the loaded front seven of FSU and which FSU defender stood out the most? These are all questions answered in my scouting notes.
