Is Matt Light going to be a Patriot in 2012?

We launched a new feature here on NEPD last week, predicting the makeup of the 2012 Patriots roster while including the picks from our latest 2012 NFL Mock Draft.

Some things never cease to amaze me about the NFL. No. 1 on this list at times is talent evaluation. Seriously, how many people not named Mike or Kyle Shanahan thought the Redskins could be competitive in the NFC East with Sexy Rexy and Sexy… Beck-sy? I don’t see any theoretical hands raised.

So now the Redskins are exactly where all NFL fans thought they would be in early December and the Patriots get to play them to prep for the playoffs. This should not be a difficult game for the Patriots. I fully expect them to win, so I figured I might do something different for this week’s pre game column. I’m going to highlight some of the best and worst players on the Redskins that the Patriots might have to watch out for:

Patriots See the Light

Matt Light Patriots

Matt Light will be patrolling Tom Brady's blind-side for at least one more NFL season.

In a move that has been rumored to be coming for the past week, the Patriots and veteran left tackle Matt Light have agreed to terms on a two-year contract. Light will receive $12 million over the life of the contract, with $7 million guaranteed.

Patriots OT Options for 2011

What does the future hold for Matt Light and the Patriots?

NEPD Staff Writer: Doug Kyed

After drafting Nate Solder with their first pick of the 2011 draft, the Patriots have put themselves in an interesting situation regarding the bookends of their offensive line this season. Matt Light being a free agent further complicates that situation.

Had Light been signed an extra year, the decision would have been simple, continue to start Light at LT and groom either Sebastian Vollmer or Solder as the future protector of Tom Brady’s blindside. As it stands, I think the Patriots have six options.

Patriots Madden Ratings Observations

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

A few quick hits on some of the interesting or odd things in the individual rankings for Madden ’11. You can see the full list here.

The new rating this year has to do with celebrating after or before a TD.  Tom Brady clocks in with the Patriots highest rating at 96.  Randy Moss also sports a 95.  The oversight here is Zoltan Mesko – given a 75 rating… He deserves at least a 106.

Sebastian Vollmer: Breakout Candiate?

Sebastian Vollmer

Sebastian Vollmer protecting Tom Brady's blindside.

Earlier this week, Pat Kirwan put out his Top 20 Breakout Candiates list, where a certain Patriots OT was listed at #19.  Sorry to break it you Mr. Kirwan, but to put it in Sebastian Vollmer’s native German, die katze is already out of the bag.
