Less than two weeks until the 2013 NFL draft, we are in an unusual situation: the draft board has not gotten a whole lot clearer than it was a few weeks ago. That said, speculation is running more rampant than ever.

In this mock draft, I continued to look at how recent trades and free-agent signings have affected teams’ draft strategies, while projecting four possible first-round trades that shook up the draft order.

The New England Patriots are among the teams in a different situation in this mock draft. With the Patriots likely to be giving up their third-round draft pick for wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, they would address their position of greatest need but also lose a valuable selection, leaving them without any picks in Rounds 3-6. With just two picks in the 2013 NFL draft before Round 7, the Patriots are among the teams who could make a deal before making any picks at all.

The New England Patriots’ best chance to improve their roster is less than three weeks away, when the 2013 NFL Draft begins.

With only five total picks in this year’s draft and only three within the first six rounds, it is important for the Patriots to maximize their selections for both value and need, especially with their picks in Round 1-3.

The 2013 NFL Draft is officially less than a month away, and more than two weeks into NFL free agency, the pace of signings has slowed down considerably even though they are still some very significant veteran players available on the market.

The complexion of the draft’s picture, however, has continued to change as the draft becomes closer into sight. Notably, a fantastic pro day for Utah defensive lineman Star Lotulelei, and a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the Kansas City Chiefs are seeking a trade for left tackle Branden Albert, make it appear as though the No. 1 pick debate is back to where it was a few weeks ago: between Lotulelei and Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel.

Recently we previewed some of the wide receivers which the New England Patriots could potentially target in each round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Today, we’ll take a look at seven cornerbacks who may appeal to Bill Belichick in next month’s draft.

Perhaps the most intriguing rumor currently circulating from a New England Patriots perspective is the club’s rumored interest in Mississippi State senior cornerback Johnthan Banks, first reported by writer Tony Pauline, who claimed that the Patriots were considering drafting Banks in the draft’s first round.

New England was one of the twenty-five teams in attendance at Mississippi State’s March 6th pro day, which also featured prospects such as cornerback Darius Slay (profiled on NEPD last week) and defensive tackle Josh Boyd. Read on to find out whether or not it’s reasonable to expect Banks in a Patriots uniform come draft day.

I’m neither Bill Belichick nor Nick Caserio, but the better part of last week, I represented the New England Patriots in #MockTwo, a draft simulation in which 32 Twitter users, ranging from well-known NFL writers and analysts to diehard fans representing their favorite teams, each represent an NFL team in a seven-round 2013 NFL mock draft, complete with trading and all.

Now that the draft order is essentially set and underclassmen have had to declare, it’s prudent to start looking at potential scenarios for the draft. This early, particularly before free agency gets going and the offseason workouts for the prospects have happened, these types of projections are more about finding 32 players who are most likely to be drafted in the first round than they are for accuracy.

You can determine what the needs for each team will be based on the roster, and get a feel for who might be there at various points in the draft. This is a difficult draft to project right now because teams are split on many of the elite prospects and the important positions like quarterback. While there may only be one or two quarterbacks with first round grades, we could see three or four taken in the first round and maybe even six taken in the top 50.

It’s early, but everyone loves a mock draft.
