AJ Jenkins NFL Draft

A.J. Jenkins could fit in well with the Patriots WR corps.

NEPD Editor: Mike Loyko

A mere 16 days away from the beginning of the 2012 NFL Draft. I make yet another attempt at predicting the Patriots picks. It’s always a difficult job trying to figure out what Bill Belichick and the Patriots will do, so this time I take a different approach.

Here is my latest attempt at how I think the Patriots 2012 NFL draft could shape up.

The combine is great for many things, but one of those is just the chance to see every player in one setting, doing the same drills right next to one another. There are so many variables during the season, it’s nice to see one controlled environment even if they aren’t in pads.

Each of these positions has something different to showcase at the combine, for DBs, it’s all about speed at footwork. For the defensive line, it’s more about flexibility and strength. For linebackers, teams will be looking at technique, burst and overall athleticism.

It’s a fun time of year, so when you’re watching the NFL Network, make sure to watch some of these guys.

After researching what the Patriots might look for when drafting for the secondary yesterday, I took a look at all of the defensive backs down at the Senior Bowl this year to see who the Patriots might have been most interested in.

There is no perfect player here, but there are certainly some players that fit the Patriots mold.

Every April a handful of prospects end up going much higher than originally thought. Often times we refer to them as “reaches” or players who were unworthy of their draft spot.

This list isnt’t to identify reaches, but more so to identify players who will go higher than they are being talked about right now. I expect a lot of the players on this list to rise before the draft rolls around.

2012 Senior Bowl: Brandon Boykin Interview

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

When people see Devin Hester-esque returns, sometimes they overlook just how good you can be doing your “day-job” – or in the case of Georgia’s cornerback Brandon Boykin, playing cornerback.

Other than perhaps Janoris Jenkins, Boykin might have had the best time for a defensive prospect so far in Mobile.

Boykin speaks with NEPD Writer Doug Kyed about who he models his game after, his versatility on the field, his role on special teams, and predicted 40-yard dash time.

Boykin is currently our #10 CB in a stacked class.

Mike Loyko also had a chance to chat with Boykin after practice.
