The Patriots got fantastic value on day one of the 2013 NFL Draft – picking up four picks from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for the 29th pick.

Value is great, but if you don’t use it correctly, it ultimately becomes a waste.

What priorities do the Patriots have and how should Patriots maximize their value on day two of the 2013 NFL Draft?

Potential Surprise Early-Round Picks for the New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have a number of positions of need they should look to address — wide receiver, pass-rush defensive tackle, cornerback, coverage linebacker — and currently only five draft picks to work with to attempt to fill those needs.

The Patriots aren’t a team that will allow their draft strategy to be handicapped by needs, however, and among those needs, the only one where their need for a starter is desperate is at wide receiver. Therefore, while the Patriots should be expected or at least projected to use at least one of their early draft picks on a receiver, the draft board in New England could be wide open to talent at other positions if the Patriots believe in the value on the board.

New England’s offensive line unit played well last season, but the Patriots may nonetheless believe there is some room for improvement; potential areas of upgrade could be the starting right guard position (currently occupied by Dan Connolly) as well as the reserve unit. Today, we’ll look at one prospect the Patriots may target in each round of the 2013 NFL Draft, with prospect rankings and values provided by FRX.

Manti Teo NFL Draft

Is Manti Te’o a potential Patriot?

NEPD Editor: Mike Loyko

The 2012 College Football season wraps up with the highly anticipated match-up between two historic programs, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Alabama Crimson Tide. In terms of draft talent there will be more NFL talent on the field tonight than during some Jaguars games (just kidding, kind of).

Both teams are loaded with prospects who will hear their names called early in the draft, whether it’s 2013 or years down the road. The Patriots will have their eyes on a number of players who they would like to bring to Foxboro next season. Here’s who they are.

We’ll be scouting the Big Ten Championship game for potential Patriots tonight, but most of the eyes of the nation will be on the incredible Georgia vs Alabama matchup this afternoon.

As fellow NEPD editor Mike Loyko said this morning, you could create an NFL defense out of the prospects on these two teams that would compete pretty well in a couple of years.

With so much talent on display, here are four players that the Patriots might be paying extra attention to.

Although the Patriots still have a long way to go in the 2012 NFL season, it looks like they will be picking closer to the end of the first round than the beginning.

Here is an early look at some of the players and positions that Bill Belichick and company could be targeting for the 2013 NFL Draft.

Manti Te'o Notre Dame

Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o is the top prospect on one of the six remaining undefeated teams.

The college football is winding down close to its end, but there are still six remaining teams, all from different conferences, who are still undefeated. All six of these teams — Alabama, Oregon, Kansas State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Louisville — have players who will be getting paid to play football on Sundays in 2013, which is part of the reason why each has yet to lose a game this season.

The amount of NFL talent on each team varies. Alabama is an NFL factory, with multiple potential first-round picks on both sides of the ball just one year removed from having five players selected in the top 35 picks of the 2013 NFL draft. On the other end of the spectrum, a team such as Louisville has no top 2013 prospects, but has players such as sophomore quarterback Teddy Bridgewater who could be very high selections in 2014.

Regardless of the total talent on each team, the following article takes a look at the players who rates as the potential 2013 NFL draft prospect for each team.
