Jesse Williams is a huge dude – how did he play last night?. (Courier Mail)

BCS Championship game, coaching changes, the NFL Playoffs… I love this time of year. Check out five of our favorite articles from around the network in this edition of Musket Blasts.

BCS Championship Scouting Notes – Alabama vs Notre Dame (

If you watched the game, you know it was painfully one-sided. I watched it twice tonight thanks to the wonder of DVR and using commercial breaks and halftime to review prior drives. I used the above picture to help cleanse my eyes from the massacre. Here are my notes on the final college game of the 2012 season.

Are the Jets going to be in “Cap Hell”? (

Whoever the Jets eventually hire as deposed general manager Mike Tannenbaum’s successor will inherit a litany of Tannenbaum’s bloated contracts. Fortunately, a handful of these deals can be taken off the books for considerable savings without New York being forced to pay much in dead money.

Quinton Patton Profile (WR, La Tech) (

Louisiana Tech’s Quinton Patton is one player whose stock has risen throughout the season, to the point where some people think he could sneak into the late first round.

Who is the new AFC East head coach Doug Marrone? (

By now you’ve probably seen Doug Marrone’s resume so much you have it memorized. We know he spent time working under Sean Payton in New Orleans before going on to coach the Syracuse Orange. However do you know that he spent time before that with the Jets? That he was a former NFL Offensive Lineman and that he has a connection to SEC programs that GM Buddy Nix has shown an affinity for?

Andy Reid joins the Chiefs. (

While I would have preferred Oregon’s Chip Kelly, Andy Reid is a proven commodity with NFL success. Reid has 30+ more wins since 1999 than the Chiefs organization during that same period. Does this mean success in Kansas City?
