Come back every Monday, Wednesday and Friday as I choose my five favorite New England Patriots and NFL Draft links to share. Feel free to submit your own links in the comments.

Saints offensive lineman says that Chandler Jones is a “Jason Pierre-Paul type” – those are big words. (ESPN Boston)

It was the type of disruptive play the Patriots probably envisioned when they traded up to the 21st spot in the draft to select the 6-5, 260-pound Jones out of Syracuse. No, it wasn’t a sack, but in a sense, it was just as good as a quarterback takedown with Jones decisively swatting the ball away.

How does the NFL view LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu? (CBS Sports)

He doesn’t have great footwork or body technique in coverage, but his natural instincts and aggressive style of play are uncanny. There might not be a more physical competitor in all of college football. He runs fairly well, probably in the low-4.4 range, and can make plays on special teams, but his confidence and competitiveness are what separates him. He has quick-twitch reflexes and is so quick to react, which can backfire at times, but more often than not that’s why he is the first defender to the play.

Tom Brady and Drew Brees are two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, hands down. Both defenses are getting the benefit of facing both of them for three straight days in camp and preseason as they prepare for the season. “You talk about trying to play those top guys in the league like Tom, and now having Drew in here, we don’t get a break, so you really have to try to be perfect. It sounds crazy – so you try to be perfect on every play but when you go against quarterbacks of that caliber you really do because you know 90 percent of the time they’re going to be perfect,” Pats DB Devin McCourty said. “The ball is going to be where it has to be and you really have to play very well on defense to try and compete with those guys.”

Recapping episode one of the Dolphins on Hard Knocks. (

Philbin, who’s a dead ringer for Dale Doback’s father in Step Brothers, didn’t have the best overall showing in episode one. He wasn’t happy with Chad Johnson’s first press conference as a Miami Dolphin because of how many “f bombs” he dropped, so he gave Chad a talking to that more resembled “2nd grade music teacher scolding Jimmy for putting the xlyophone mallet in his mouth” than “NFL Head Coach.” If I were the artist formally known as Ocho, I probably would have walked away having no clue what to do in my next press conference.

Here are some Big 12 sleepers to watch for this year. (

The Big 12 conference has been one of the most talked about conferences the past few years. There have been countless rumors of teams leaving, teams joining, and even the conference dying off. Through it all however two things have remained the same; first Oklahoma and Texas still dominate this conference, and secondly any of these guys can beat you on any given day.
