Holiday Homework: Iowa vs Oklahoma

Ronnell Lewis NFL Draft

NFL teams will love Oklahoma DE/OLB Ronnell Lewis this much.

When Iowa and Oklahoma meet in the Insight bowl, the Sooners will be missing perhaps their best NFL prospects due to injury in Ryan Broyles and suspension in Ronnell Lewis, while the Hawkeyes are missing a potential future Top 5 RB due to suspension in Marcus Coker.

Even so, there are plenty of 2012 NFL Draft prospects to watch during this game.

Iowa’s Top Prospect: #77 OT Riley Reiff

If you want well-coached technically sound offensive linemen, look no further than the black and gold behemoths at the University of Iowa.

Reiff is just the latest in the line, following the likes of Marshal Yanda, Bryan Bulaga, Robert Gallery, and many more. He isn’t as nasty as some linemen, but his size, length and smarts should propel him into the top half of the 1st round.

Others to watch: #7 WR Marvin McNutt, #91 DE Broderick Binns, #93 DL Mike Daniels, #56 OL Marcus Zusevics, CB Shaun Prater

Oklahoma’s Top Prospect: #56 DE/OLB Ronnell Lewis

Lewis might not be the first Sooner picked in the draft, or even the first Lewis picked, but he certainly has the highest ceiling of any prospect.

His suddenness from the edge and purported 4.5 speed will have teams looking for a pass-rusher salivating – even though we’ve heard some differing opinions on his maturity, smarts, and work ethic.

Update: Lewis will not play due to suspension for academic reasons.

Others to watch: #28 LB Travis Lewis, #12 QB Landry Jones, #32 CB Jamell Fleming

Ronnell Lewis is not playing in the Bowl Game because he was declared academically ineligible….other than that, you’re dead on, he’s got immense upside….unfortunately he’s not “ideal” when it comes to his size so the Pats will probably pass on him and he’ll be a pro-bowler in 2 years.
