Patriots Work Out Da’Rel Scott

Da'Rel Scott Patriots

Marlyand RB Da'Rel Scott about to cut to the outside.

After conducting a private workout with Maryland wide receiver Torrey Smith, the Patriots have moved on to one of his teammates.

Running back Da’Rel Scott (5-11/211) is the latest workout target for New England, according to Tony Pauline of Sports Illustrated.

Although Scott has impressed with his 4.34 speed and homerun-ability, we see way too much of Laurence Maroney in this prospect to take a chance on him before the 5th or 6th round.

The former Terrapin has been plagued with injuries (wrist, shoulder, ankle, etc…) while also having the tendency to want to dance and head outside, rather than plugging away for the tough two yards.

Derrick Locke (RB, Kentucky) was also recently given a private workout, in addition to the previously reported workout with Kentucky WR Chris Matthews.

I would just sign FA RB Michael Bush from the Raiders.. Big body, tough runner and played pretty well behind a mediocre line in Oakland..

Amen on that. But I would like to see another “BIG/POWER” style Antwon Smith or Corry Dillon Running Back. We haven’t had anyone like that in a while, and they do a very nice job powering their way up and in getting consistent small yard’s when needed for a first down, as well as do a very nice job working/eating up the clock.
The LAW FIRM has worked out very well thus far and WOODY has been a great catch, but I’d still like too see a biger guy in there.
RB? This is just another reason they need to tighten back up the O-Line.

I was reading an ESPN article on a college coach that details zone blocking schemes, which is mostly what Pat’s run. His words were that the RB needs to be decisive and trust that the hole will open as he gets there. A RB that dances in front looking for a hole will never make it.

Sound familiar? LMaroney danced his way out while BJGE was waiting in the wings. Houston Texans run blocking schemes like us as did Denver Broncos with Shanahan. The blocking schemes do not call for a back like APeterson or CJ2000 at premium draft picks and/or dollars.
