NCAA Week 11: NFL Draft Preview

Dain Taylor

With very few marquee NCAA matchups this week, we're taking a look at a few of the FCS prospects that might tantalize the Patriots Front Office.

If you have looked at our NFL Draft Sleepers before the season started, you’ve seen some pretty good football. Some are big name guys now, but others have yet to shine on the national stage. We aim to change that.

We’re going to highlight a couple of these guys this week in our weekly scouting reports, starting with Dain Taylor of the Drake Bulldogs. The New England Patriots have had their eye on this DE/OLB hybrid all year, and his game against Butler tomorrow will certainly be on their radar.

Taylor has a sudden first step and plays with the tenacity and motor that Patriot fans will instantly adore. Look for Taylor to impress in some post-season play this year.

Villanova’s Ben Ijilana, a 6-4/320 offensive guard, will suit up against the University of New Hampshire. Ijilana is the FCS’ best prospect in most people’s books, and a near lock to go in the top 100.

That said, outside of drafts and Villanova fans, few know just how good of a player he is. He is absolutely dominant at the point of attack, blasting open holes for the likes of Matt Szczur – who just so happens to be another jack-of-all-trades player that Coach Belichick loves to try out from schools like Villanova (Ventrone Brothers).

With uncertainty surrounding the guard position in the future for the Patriots, and the presence of Patriots personnel at multiple Villanova events, Ijilana is certainly a possibility to become a Patriot this spring.
