Patriots to Workout Ricky Sapp

According to various sources, the Patriots will workout Clemson OLB Ricky Sapp sometime in the next few days. The Patriots already have private workouts scheduled with LSU’s Al Woods and Iowa’s Tony Moeaki.

Ricky Sapp is an explosive pass-rush specialist with a lightning-quick first step. As he projects to be a 3-4 OLB, he is trying to bulk up a bit to be able to set the edge better against the run. The Patriots should be very interested to see if Sapp has athletic enough hips to cover as well.

Other potential OLB targets in the 2010 NFL Draft include Jerry Hughes of TCU, Sergio Kindle of Texas, and Brandon Graham of Michigan.

We need the Tight End worse than the corner. With the resigning of Bodden, and the improvement of Butler, and a better pass rush, I would focus on a DL, LB, WR and TE. We are just going to have to get by with what we have on the OL, RB, and DB positions outside of some minor free agent pick ups.

I would only hope that he would be strong enough to hold up against the run. Seems that Kindle, Graham or Hughes may be better options. We can only hope that we pick up a DT/DE, a OLB, a WR and a CB with our 4 first picks; all needs. Lots of potential suiters. I would also consider trading our #1 in 2011 (not the Oakland pick) for Tampa Bays 2nd rounder (#42) and their 3rd round pick (#67). We don’t have our own 3rd round pick this year, and we need one. This way, we’d be able to aquire one of the better TE’s in this year’s draft. Let’s not kid ourselves, we need to re-stock!

Ricky is a one dimensional type player and doesn’t begin to compare with a Brandon Graham, Sergio Kindle,Jerry Hughes or even an Eric Norwood. The Pats can do better than wasting a draft choice on him.

The Patriots should sign Ricky Sapp right now. He is soooo quick. Instant pass rush.
