Patriots Kicking Tires on Punters

While watching the 2010 NFL Draft, you can expect a few die-hard Patriot fans to jump for joy with the selection of a…. punter?

The much-maligned Chris Hanson, whose consistently average punts and solid holding were the highlights of his time in New England, is currently a free agent. All signs point to Hanson not being back in Foxboro for the 2010 NFL Season.

To replace Hanson, the Patriots worked out Virginia Tech punter Brett Bowden yesterday, and also have a workout scheduled with Michigan punter Zoltan Mesko. Matt Dodge of East Carolina and Mike Brandtner of Iowa State should also get some looks as well.

With 12 picks BB knows that not all of them will make the roster. Laying claim to the best punter available avoids having to chase one as a free agent if they don’t get selected. A punter would be a good addition to the handful of guys that probably won’t make it past the practice squad.

yes i agree we need to draft a punter using one of our various 7th round draft picks

i disagree. a 7th rounder on a good punter would be a great pick

Not waste a draft pick on a punter ctpatsfan? I think the Patriots can afford to spend one of their numerous 7th round picks on a punter. However, I think they should have kept Drago last year. Perhaps bring him back this year…

The Patriots should not waste a draft pick on a punter. They have more pressing needs.
