Patriots Draft Mockumentary: 2/23/10

Each Tuesday, we’ll be looking at five NFL Mock Drafts, including our own. We’ll decide who wins, who fails, and who falls in between. Make sure you let us know what you think.

Today we’ll be looking at, Sunday Kickoff, Draft Countdown, Walter Football and our very own 2010 NFL Mock Draft.

Pick 22:
NFL Draft Updates: CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson
Sunday Kickoff: Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma
Draft Countdown: Tim Tebow, QB, Florida
Walter Football: Jared Odrick, DL, Penn State
NE Patriots Draft: Dan Williams, NT, Tennessee

I can’t see the Patriots going offense on their first pick, especially not Tim Tebow or a tight end. CJ Spiller might be tempting though. Walter Football is on to something with Odrick.

Pick 42:
NFL Draft Updates: Corey Wootten, DL, Northwestern
Sunday Kickoff: Corey Wootten, DL, Northwestern
Draft Countdown: Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech
Walter Football: Eric Norwood, DE/LB, South Carolina
NE Patriots Draft: Jerry Hughes, DE/LB, TCU

Draft Countdown again thinks that the Patriots don’t need help on defense, while everyone else seems to agree that the defensive line and pass rush need an upgrade.

Pick 48:
NFL Draft Updates: Maurkice Pouncey, OG/C, Florida
Sunday Kickoff: Jahvid Best, RB, California
Draft Countdown: Koa Misi, DE/LB, Utah
Walter Football: Tim Tebow, QB, Florida
NE Patriots Draft: Maurkice Pouncey, OG/C, Florida

Offense seems to be the consensus here, with Lord Tebow making another appearance, along with a RB and an OG/C. Misi finally is a good pick from Draft Countdown for the Patriots.

Pick 53:
NFL Draft Updates: Ricky Sapp, DE/LB, Clemson
Sunday Kickoff: Perrish Cox, CB, Oklahoma State
Draft Countdown: Aaron Hernandez, TE, Florida
Walter Football: Aaron Hernandez, TE, Florida
NE Patriots Draft: Mardy Gilyard, WR, Cincinnati

We love all of these picks, although we’d rather have Amari Spievey or Devin McCourty than Perrish Cox. Hernandez and Gilyard would provide Tom Brady with another receiving threat, while Sapp would be a great value at this position in the draft.

With the 1st round pick the Pats will take the best available player, of need, this could be offfense, easily. More so, because they do have these other 3 top 53 picks to go defense, and in a very deep draft with many CB, OLB to choose from. Don’t forget they have 2 1st rounders next year that could be moved this year. I think Pouncey is very possible at #22, and if Gresham’s knee checks out he could be a score (RED ZONE!) potential super star talent. Don’t be shocked…they have the other picks, and they do need another TE…it’s a mismatch position.

I agree that it’s probably defense with the first pick, but that assumes someone the caliber of cj spiller isn’t sitting there at 22. I like Gresham as well, but not til the 2nd. Sapp at 53 would be nice
