NFL Draft Homework: Orange Bowl

Iowa vs Georgia Tech, January 5th, 8:00pm, Fox

Top NFL Draft Prospects for the Orange Bowl:

1. Amari Spievey, CB, Iowa(Pictured)
Spievey is an under the radar junior that has all the skills to be a top CB in the NFL. As you can see from above, he can really bring the wood in run support, while he has fluid hips and decent ball skills in coverage. Will be a 2nd-3rd rounder this year, or a top 15 pick next year.

2. Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech
Morgan should be a top 15 pick in this year’s draft. He is a 4-3 DE, and don’t let anyone tell you he is a 3-4 OLB. The coverage skills just aren’t there. That said, as a 4-3 DE, Morgan will be a terror to opposing tackles.

3. Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech
A big bruising back that will shine in the NFL. Look for Dwyer to have a tough game against a stout Iowa D-Line sporting 2011 Draft prospects Adrian Clayborn and Broderick Binns.

4. Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa
Bulaga has battled a thyroid problem all year, but has the potential to be a great OT on Sundays. His inconsistency may have cost him a top 5 pick if he declares, but should be a 1st round pick none the less. His opposite OT Kyle Calloway is also a solid 3rd-round OT prospect.

5. AJ Edds, OLB, Iowa
Edds is a solid OLB that always seems to be in the right position. In Norm Parker’s defense Edds isn’t called on to blitz too often. However, when called upon, Edds has been more than up to the ask. Coverage skills could always improve, but his speed and instincts make up for a few false steps. Should be a 3rd-4th rounder. Look for his buddy ILB Pat Angerer to get some love in the late rounds or as a UDFA – Angerer might be too stiff in coverage and a bit on the small size for NFL scouts, even though he is a heck of a football player.

6. Demaryius Thomas, WR, Georgia Tech
Thomas has the size (6’3/230) and 4.4 speed to be a difference maker in the NFL. Unfortunately, he doesn’t often get to prove that at GT. Watch for him to jump up the draft boards at the combine.
