Patriots Stun Bills With Late Comeback

“This isn’t how we drew it up…” – Tom Brady, to Suzy Kolber in a somewhat truncated post-game interview.

After multiple stalled drives on offense and frustrating 3rd down failures on defense, the Patriots of old reared up and took over the game – thanks in no small part to Leodis McKelvin.

McKelvin’s krumble (kickoff + fumble) marred what was nearly a perfect game played by the Bills. They kept every one of Tom Brady’s nearly 200 passes in front of their safeties, and taking advantage of opportunities provided by the Patriots offensive line to apply pressure. One of those opportunities turned into an Aaron Schoebel interception return for a touchdown that had Patriot fans shaking thoughts of Sam Adams out of their heads.

The Patriots line solidified late, providing Tom Brady with the time to march down the field twice in the final six minutes, hitting tight end Ben Watson twice in the end zone. The second TD, a perfect back-shoulder ball, proved to be enough to bring home the win.

The Patriots (1-0) will face the New York Jets next Sunday in the Meadowlands. Look for Rex Ryan and company to try and duplicate the success that the Bills had in the first three quarters by bringing five and six defenders at will.

Great Patriots Win over the Bills — Hopefully Jerod Mayo isn’t hurt badly.
