Patriots Release Kevin O’Connell

In a somewhat shocking move, the Patriots have released 2nd year quarterback Kevin O’Connell, who was expected to be the backup to Tom Brady.

The Patriots spent a 3rd round draft pick on the San Diego St. signal caller, and during his rookie season he showed promise of becoming a solid backup with starter potential. This preseason, however, O’Connell’s resume has been riddle by poor reads and even worse throws.

Andrew Walter and Brian Hoyer are the other Patriot QB’s that are on the team currently. There has been much speculation about former Chiefs starter Tyler Thigpen, who is being shopped by Scott Pioli, and backup Eagles QB AJ Feeley — best known for having a nice-looking fiance and throwing INT’s to Asante Samuel.
