Patriots Trading up?

UPDATE: The National Football Post is reporting that the Patriots will NOT trade up.

As we tweeted about earlier yesterday, multiple reports have the Patriots trying to trade up into the top 10 picks. The specific targets seem to be the #8 (Jaguars) and #9 (Packers) picks, although the #7 (Raiders) has been mentioned as well. Most reports have the Patriots giving up the #23 and the #47.

While most experts feel that the Patriots are looking to upgrade their suspect defense in the first round, it seems like they would be targeting an offensive player in the top 10. Reportedly, Andre Smith, and Michael Crabtree are high on the Patriots wish-list. If they stick with defense, Malcolm Jenkins, Tyson Jackson, and BJ Raji could all be possibilities.

As always, Belichick is ever the contrarian. If the Top 10 is popular like 2008, he trades down. If it isn’t like 2009, he tries to trade up. Enjoy your draft day Patriot fans, it is going to be a doozy.

Trading up for Rey probably isn’t the smartest. I’ve seen mocks dropping him into the second round. He isn’t a third down LB. Unless Aaron Curry falls to the 7-10 spot, I don’t see enough value to trade up. I still stick to my previous comment about the Pats trading down to ensure they get both Barwin and Unger at great values.

@Anon – I really don’t think the Patriots will have to trade that high to get Rey.
