There are only eight short days until the Patriots rookies report to training camp and less than two months until the New England Patriots take the field against the Tennessee Titans on opening day.
In my second of four articles breaking down the 2012 Patriots schedule, I take a look at what Bill Belichick and company will be going up against in week five through eight.
Here is how I saw the first four games of the Patriots 2012 schedule playing out.

Last week this column examined the uncertainty surrounding Wes Welker’s contract situation and suggested that New England could be in search of a replacement (immediate or otherwise) next April, targeting a player such as Texas A&M’s Ryan Swope.
However, the Patriots could still be in the market for a wide receiver regardless of how Welker’s contract situation pans out.
Could Ryan Swope be a possible target in the 2013 NFL Draft if Wes Welker isn't re-signed to a long-term deal? (Photo: US Presswire)

Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker recently revealed that New England’s contract extension offers diminished in overall value shortly after Welker signed his one year, $9.5 million franchise tender.
It is currently unknown whether or not the reduced offer was a consequence of Welker’s decision to detail the difficult negotiation process between himself and the organization publicly or whether the Patriots are simply attempting to capitalize on the leverage Welker sacrificed by ending his holdout and signing the tender.

With the offseaon slated to get into full swing this week with the NFL combine, I take a position by position look at where the Patriots roster stands. What are the biggest needs, where are they set and what will they likely target.
In Decemeber I did I similar article breaking down the Patriots roster and where it stood. Now that the Patriots came within two minutes of winning another Super Bowl, I take a look where does their roster stand now.
With the combine coming up this week, it will give fans a perspective of exactly what the Patriots will be looking for on March 13th when unrestricted free agency opens and when the draft comes in late April. It can also be a guide for fans who are looking to do mock drafts for the Patriots.

Toledo Star WR Eric Page took the time out of his busy training schedule to answer questions about the draft process and his college career. Eric was tremendously insightful and his knowledge of the game shines through in his answers.
In a year where there are literally upwards of 40 WRs that could be drafted, it’s going to be tough to stand apart from the pack. It’s likely to be the intangibles and the off the field work ethic that will make a player stand out more so than his workouts and stat line. It’s clear to me after only 20 minutes of conversation that Eric Page has the intangibles that will seperate him from the pack.
