With news surfacing that the New England Patriots will likely try to reach a contract extension with Wes Welker prior to free agency on March 12, the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady have agreed to a contract extension—an extension for Welker could very well be in the future.

It seems that few teams have been able to master the NFL salary cap like the New England Patriots. Sustaining success over a decade without having to blow things up.

Other teams haven’t been so lucky. The New York Jets for example, are currently looking at a $19+ million deficit after a 6-10 season.

The big, long-term Patriots news was that Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels would not be interviewing for any head coaching jobs this offseason. McDaniels had been linked to the Cleveland Browns head coaching jobs earlier in the week and was likely going to interview for multiple head coaching jobs this offseason.

Now this is all purely speculation, but the idea was brought up today on Felger and Mazz that the reason McDaniels did not want to interview for any jobs was because Belichick would be retiring in the next couple of years.

The New England Patriots’ season got off to a shaky start, as the team was 3-3 through their first six games. Since then, however, the Patriots have been on a roll. They have won their past five consecutive games, by an average margin of victory of 22.4 points per game.

The Patriots have been as dominant as any team in the National Football League over that span, and are making a case for being the AFC’s best team. While it is too soon to state that at this point, we can pinpoint five reasons why the Patriots have won their last five contests.

The Patriots were off this weekend, getting rested up for the stretch run before a hopeful playoff berth. They didn’t get to be a part of one of the worst weekends for sportsbooks, but a great one for guys that bet on NFL football this weekend.

This was a complete and utter disaster. This was the worst and most demoralizing non-Super Bowl loss in a while. This beats 4th and 2. This beats them all. This was one of the worst Patriots losses in recent memory.
