2014 NFL Draft: Round Two Mock Draft

There is a ton of talent left to start round two, including a couple Notre Dame DL.

Day one of the 2014 NFL Draft is already in the books and now things gets interesting. The first round went pretty much as expected, but day two is where the depth and value of this draft will shine bright. If you look at the draft board it’s clear there are some very good players still available to start round two.

In fact, there will be very good players that last all the way through the third round. With the new draft format, Day Two is the most exciting and action packed day of the draft, here is how I think it shakes out.

In the coming weeks and months leading up to the 2014 NFL draft, NEPatriotsDraft.com will profile college prospects that potentially fit the needs and draft seating of the New England Patriots. In this sixth installment, we will take a closer look at the film behind Notre Dame defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt.

Size. Strength. Speed. Versatility.

As a defensive lineman and tight end at Monroe Area High School in Monroe, Ga., Stephon Tuitt brought all four traits to the table. And after the football program went 0-20 during his sophomore and junior campaigns, his traits helped lead a turnaround.

Tuitt and the Hurricanes went 11-2 in 2010, forging it into the third round of the Georgia Class AAA state playoffs. In the process, Tuitt forged into the recruiting picture.

He found himself ranked the 38th overall prospect in the nation by Sports Illustrated and 22nd by Rivals.com. He found himself competing in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas, as well as the Team USA vs. The World All-Star Game in Austin.

Shortly thereafter, he found himself in South Bend, Ind., as member of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. (more…)


2014 NFL Draft: Post-Combine Patriots Mock Draft

In 2014, Notre Dame is the new Rutgers.

One more piece of the draft puzzle was completed over the weekend. With the NFL Combine in the books, we now have confirmed height, weight, and, speed numbers on most of the prospects, which brings some clarity to which players could fit the Patriots draft profiles. The combine, like always, creates some movement on draft boards. As player injuries are revealed and lack of speed is exposed, players are moved down or dropped off of draft boards. How did the combine change the Patriots potential draft haul? Here’s my latest attempt at projecting their 2014 Draft.

Potential can be a like an oasis. An illusion that mystifies and intrigues  but often leaves us with nothing. So is it purely a show to distract us from the prospects’ real value? Maybe, but isn’t it fun? Rarely does an elite athlete clearly also possess all the necessary intangibles to be great.
