Saturday Slate: Week 2 Matchups to Watch in College Football

Friday, September 5th, 2014

NEPD Staff Writer: CJ Sousa

Nothing quite beats opening weekend of college football. There’s no preseason, no practice runs. Week 1 as usual provided entertainment all the way through. Before I get into the Week 2 matchups you should be watching, lets recap Week 1.

What we learned: Kenny Football! Kenny Heisman! Kenny Trill! Kenny.. Sumlin? Seriously, Kenny Hill looked great.   His throws’ were accurate and on time all night long. But it’s time Kevin Sumlin gets recognized as one of the best offensive minds in football. Receivers were open… all… night… long. South Carolina’s defense had no answers, as they were too busy running sideline-to-sideline trying to catch their breath all night. (more…)

Pro Day Spotlight: Georgia, Stanford

Jarvis Jones 2013 NFL Draft

The downward perception of Jarvis Jones’ draft stock is likely to continue following a disappointing pro day performance.

NEPD Staff Writer: Dan Hope

Thursday was a big day on the pro day schedule leading up to the 2013 NFL Draft, highlighted by the pro days held at Georgia and Stanford, both of which were streamed via ESPN3.

I took the time to watch both pro days, focusing on some of the top prospects from each school and evaluating what the workouts showed about their athleticism.

Every Friday this summer I’m doing a case study on the last ten years draft history of every conference in the FBS.

Through these case studies we’ll be able to answer which schools and conferences produce the most talent, the most busts, the most players at each position and much more.

I know that it’s a lot of information to digest, but there’s some very interesting findings during this first week of research which will become even more telling as each week progresses.

This week, I’m taking on the Pac-12. You can also read about the Mountain West, Big EastIndependents, C-USA, Big Ten, ACC and MAC.

2012 NFL Draft Chris Owusu

Chris Owusu had a great combine, now he's ready to move on to the next level.

NEPD Editor: Doug Kyed

I recently got the chance to talk to a real sleeper in this draft, former Stanford stand out WR Chris Owusu. Chris was a great guy to speak to, and he detailed what this whole NFL Draft process has been like for him.

Chris really tore it up at the combine running an official 4.36 40 (tied for 1st among WRs), with a 40 1/2″ vertical jump (3rd), 10’09″ broad jump (2nd), 4.11 short shuttle (6th) and a 6.85 3-cone drill (9th).

We talked about what it was like playing with Andrew Luck, some of the intricacies of the Harbaugh offense, and you may even find out if he would rather play under Jim Harbaugh or with Andrew Luck.
