Come July, these players are going to be having a high-stakes competition for the last few spots on the 53-man roster.

New England carries five running backs into the regular season on this projection; Brandon Bolden appears to have performed well enough to warrant a space on the team. Jeremy Ebert, Jesse Holley, and Kerry Taylor had their moments this preseason but none of them is ready to contribute right now at wide receiver; a Gaffney re-signing is possible.
There has been nothing new regarding Brian Waters’ status for the 2012 season, so he has been left off of this 53-man roster projection.

NFL teams have until August 27th to cut their rosters down to 75 players. They will then have to further pare down their team to 53 players by 8pm on Friday the 31st.

The Patriots made some news yesterday with the release of DT Jonathan Fanene, which shakes up most roster projections. On Monday night against the Eagles we got to take a long look at the second and third teams, with some players solidifying spots and some losing jobs.
