2014 New England Patriots: Roster Projection Version 1.0

Thursday, July 24th, 2014

Will Pat Chung stick with the Patriots the second time around?

NEPD Editor: Mike Loyko

Perhaps the biggest roster questions heading into the season for the Patriots has already been answered. Rob Gronkowski is cleared to play and will not begin the season on PUP.

With his status cleared up, the most significant roster questions reside on the offensive and defensive lines. How will those positions shake out as training camp unfolds?

Here is what I project the Patriots 53-man roster to look like at the end of summer.

Brandon Bolden is firmly on the roster bubble.

After four job interviews, the Patriots are ready to hire 53 players to compete this year. Some were easy decisions, while others are going to have the interview teams locked in debate well into the night.

Here is my last prediction of how Bill Belichick is going to assemble his team.

There is no doubt about these two, but who else is on the 53 man roster?

NEPD Editor: Mike Loyko

Prior to last night’s game against the Detroit Lions, Head Coach Bill Belichick said that 80% of the roster was set and only 20% of the roster was unsettled. With the third preseason game in the books, that number has increased and most roster spots are decided. The 2013 Patriots are filled with new faces in key positions and young depth across the roster. This makes for some tough roster decisions, knowing that if a young player is cut, they likely are gone for good. Here is my educated breakdown of how the 53 man roster will look once final cuts are made.

Is Adrian Wilson a roster lock for the Patriots?

NEPD Editor: James Christensen

The Patriots added some talent during the 2013 NFL Draft to a roster that was one of the four best in the NFL last year.

Come July, these players are going to be having a high-stakes competition for the last few spots on the 53-man roster.

Who made the cut?

Has Brandon Bolden done enough to warrant a roster spot? (Photo: US Presswire)

NEPD Staff Writer: Matthew Jones

New England carries five running backs into the regular season on this projection; Brandon Bolden appears to have performed well enough to warrant a space on the team. Jeremy Ebert, Jesse Holley, and Kerry Taylor had their moments this preseason but none of them is ready to contribute right now at wide receiver; a Gaffney re-signing is possible.

There has been nothing new regarding Brian Waters’ status for the 2012 season, so he has been left off of this 53-man roster projection.
