Other than Julian Edelman, out of the wide receivers that are under contract with the New England Patriots for 2013, not one of them caught a pass from Tom Brady last season.

In just a matter of a month or so, the Patriots have completely restructured their wide receiver corps. We have seen Wes Welker sign with the Denver Broncos, Brandon Lloyd released while the team has welcomed Danny Amendola, Donald Jones and Michael Jenkins. Not to mention that the team could very well be welcoming Pittsburgh Steelers restricted free agent Emmanuel Sanders to the team as well—as we sit hours away from learning whether or not the Steelers will match Nwe England’s offer sheet on Sanders.

Whether or not that the Steelers decide to match New England’s offer or let Sanders walk, I still do believe that there’s a legitimate shot that the team could draft a wide receiver in the first round. In that spirit, let’s take a look at three possible wide receivers that will be available at No. 29 overall.

Pro Day Spotlight: USC, LSU, Texas

Friday, March 29th, 2013

All eyes were on Matt Barkley this week during his passing workout at USC’s pro day.

NEPD Staff Writer: Dan Hope

The pro day schedule is nearly complete, but the last full week of pro days was packed with major programs and star talent. The highest-profile pro day of them all, however, was USC’s pro day on Wednesday, where all eyes were on quarterback Matt Barkley, hoping to prove himself as a top-two quarterback in the 2013 draft class while also trying to prove his health following a shoulder injury that ended his senior season early.

Potential Draft Strategy for New England Patriots Following Free Agency’s First Waves

Tuesday, March 26th, 2013

How has re-signing Sebastian Vollmer, Aqib Talib and others changed the Patriots draft strategy?

NEPD Staff Writer: Dan Hope

The New England Patriots have kept with their usual strategy during the first two weeks of this year’s NFL free agency.

The Patriots haven’t made many big-ticket signings, but they successfully re-signed most of their key free agents (right tackle Sebastian Vollmer, cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Kyle Arrington), found ample replacements for the key free agents they did lose (Danny Amendola for Wes Welker at slot receiver, Leon Washington for Danny Woodhead at situational running back), and added another veteran bargain in strong safety Adrian Wilson.

2013 NFL Mock Draft: Updated Projections As Free Agency Shifts Draft Strategies

Wednesday, March 20th, 2013

Geno Smith’s draft projection is on the rise following West Virginia’s pro day.

Updated 3/21

For those of us who take the task of producing mock drafts throughout the year, the free-agency period is a game-changer. Just a week into free agency, many previous mock draft projections have had to be completely scrapped, as teams’ projected draft strategies have changed with free agents changing hands from old to new teams.

In addition to free agency changing the personnel needs of each teams, some prospects’ draft stocks are also rising and falling with their pro day performances.

2013 NFL Draft: Patriots Need to Add to Receiving Corps

Deandre Hopkins

Is Deandre Hopkins going to get some first round looks from New England?

NEPD Editor: James Christensen

Chad O’Shea, Patriots receivers coach, better get used to meeting a lot of new faces in 2013. After essentially swapping Wes Welker for Danny Amendola and Brandon Lloyd for Donald Jones, the Patriots certainly aren’t done addressing the receiver position this off-season.

What options are left in free agency and the 2013 NFL Draft?

Where does Kenny Vaccaro fall in this 2013 NFL Mock Draft?

NEPD Staff Writer: Tony Santorsa

Let’s take a look at my very first NFL mock draft here at – I’ll only be mocking the first round, as I’m a Patriots-beat writer throughout the season, so I’m currently transitioning into the NFL draft season.
