Patriots vs Chiefs: Six Keys to Victory

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

NEPD Staff Writer: Doug Kyed

With a night to register last night’s home victory, one thought resonates with me, has a team ever scored 34 points and looked less impressive on offense?

Trust me, I’m not being negative, if anything it’s impressive that his team can win 34-3 without a top notch offensive effort and especially without a prototypical Wes Welker game. Coming into the year, everyone talked about how many weapons Brady had on this offense. That’s come true to a certain extent, but he tends to key in on the targets he knows best: Welker, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez and Deion Branch.

Everyone would like to see another wide receiver break out, but frankly, if this team can run as well as they did last night, they won’t need breakout roles from Chad Ochocinco or Taylor Price.

Without further ado, here are my six keys to victory over the Chiefs:

Rob Gronkowski is an owl.

For all the Chiefs fans that complain about Matt Cassel… it could be worse; Tyler Palko proved that.

The Patriots started out slow, as we’ve grown accustomed to lately, but when they come on late, they come on strong.

Here are some quick hit thoughts on tonight’s game:

Patriots Jets Fireman Ed

Fireman Ed had little to cheer for Sunday night.

As our own Mike Loyko said on twitter, I can actually watch football talk shows for the first time in three weeks.

This game against the Jets is what last week’s game should have been: a great defensive performance, key turnovers, no turnovers on offense and the defense coming up big when it matters most.

Here’s some more things I noticed during the game:

Giants vs Patriots Gronkowski

Rob Gronkowski's late touchdown wasn't enough to lift the Patriots to victory.

NEPD Staff Writer: Doug Kyed

There was some discussion on Twitter today about who was to blame for this loss: offense, defense, special teams, coaching, etc. This wasn’t your typical full team loss, but it was on the whole team.

For the first three quarters, the defense was outstanding and for the last quarter the offense came up when it mattered most. This game seemed to come down to specific plays more than any other New England loss this season.

Therefore, for my keys to this week’s defeat, I’ll be getting pretty specific on some of them. This game really seemed to come down to a few key plays:

Option #1 is out - Time for Option #85?

NEPD Staff Writer: Brian D

Already three weeks in and the Patriots are off to a hot start. Tied three ways for the top of the division are Buffalo, New England, and New York at 2-0.

Tom Brady has a league high 940 yards, 7 TDs, and 1 TD, completing 71.6 of his passes thus far. The New England defense had four takeaway against Phillip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers last Sunday, defeating them 31-25.

I touched yesterday on what happened during the game, but let’s dig a little deeper and see exactly why the Patriots were able to open the 2011 NFL season with a big win.

Here were the six keys to victory:
