2014 New England Patriots: Roster Projection Version 1.0

Thursday, July 24th, 2014

Will Pat Chung stick with the Patriots the second time around?

NEPD Editor: Mike Loyko

Perhaps the biggest roster questions heading into the season for the Patriots has already been answered. Rob Gronkowski is cleared to play and will not begin the season on PUP.

With his status cleared up, the most significant roster questions reside on the offensive and defensive lines. How will those positions shake out as training camp unfolds?

Here is what I project the Patriots 53-man roster to look like at the end of summer.

Blame for Patriots Secondary Struggles Start at the Top

Patriots Secondary

NEPD Editor: Mike Loyko

This will be my one and only article on this topic, at least for awhile. After watching another meltdown in the 4th quarter, compounded by the inability of the defensive backs to make routine plays in pass coverage.

I have had enough.

I have had enough of watching an opposing Quarterback launch a Hail Mary pass from their own 30 yard line knowing that there is more than a 50% chance that their receiver will come down with the ball or at the very least the opposing defensive back will interfere in the process. I have had enough.

So who’s to blame and what is going on back there?

Texas strong safety Kenny Vaccaro opted to return to school for his senior season rather than join the weak safety class in the 2012 NFL Draft; unfortunately there are a number of highly-regarded safeties eligible for the draft this year who could be competing with Vaccaro for draft positioning.

Matt Elam (Florida), Robert Lester (Alabama), T.J. McDonald (Southern California), Bacarri Rambo* (Georgia), and Eric Reid* (Louisiana State) are all considered potential first or second-day picks.

After visiting with the New England Patriots for two days in March, free agent safety Steve Gregory agreed to terms with the club on a contract worth $7.05 million over three years.

Gregory received a $2.5 million signing bonus as a part of the deal, prompting widespread speculation that he would start in New England’s defensive backfield opposite Patrick Chung next season.

I took on the offensive positional breakdown yesterday, today I’ll concentrate on the defense, special teams and coaching to see who has the overall advantage in Super Bowl XLVI.

Bills vs Patriots: The Aftermath

So raise your hands if you were freaking out about that first quarter for the Patriots?

You should all know better by now that that’s just how this team operates. We’ll see how it goes come playoff time, but for now the Patriots used their “start off slow and end fantastically” to clinch home field throughout.

Here are some things I noticed today:

Patriots vs Dolphins: Frozen Fish

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

Could this be the week we finally see Patrick Chung make his long awaited return?

NEPD Staff Writer: Doug Kyed

With the Dolphins spending their Christmas Eve in Foxboro, the Patriots seem to be surging at the perfect time to make a playoff run.
