The Patriots continue to hold private workouts with mid-round skill position players.

After setting up a private workout with Virginia Tech running back Ryan Williams a few days ago, the Patriots have added two more ball-carriers to their list of private workouts.

Jason Worilds Visits Patriots

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Virginia Tech DE/OLB Jason Worilds visited the Patriots today, perhaps marking the last official visit of the NFL Draft season. Teams are not allowed to hold official visits within seven days of the draft.

Worilds’ talent is rarely questioned, as he is truly a disruptive force on the field. His injury concerns, especially a bum shoulder, are cause to worry.

Coach Belichick has stated that most official visits are for medical reasons, and I’m sure this one was no different.

If found to be 100% healthy, Worilds could be a solid 2nd Round pick for a team neading a conversion project at the 3-4 OLB position.

Patriots Visited by Jamar Chaney

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Jamar Chaney, Mississippi State inside linebacker, recently made an official trip to visit the Patriots. The 6-1/241 prospect has been quickly rising up draft boards this spring after impressive workouts, including a sub-4.5 time at his pro day.

As a senior, Chaney totaled 89 tackles and 2 sacks. He also created 4 turnovers. A new addition to our top-100 list, Chaney is now getting looks in the 2nd-4th rounds.

Donald Butler to Visit Patriots

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Later this week, the Patriots will host Donald Butler, inside linebacker from the University of Washington. Butler was sidelined this off-season with an ankle sprain at the Senior Bowl, but all signs point to the former Husky being healed up.

Butler only lifted at the NFL Combine, putting up an impressive 35 reps. His ankle was healed by his pro day, where he ran a 4.61 forty yard dash.

In a weak ILB class, Butler stands out as a top 5 prospect. Look for him to be off the board in the first 100 picks.

Patriots Set to Host Brian Price

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

In the coming days, the UCLA defensive lineman Brian Price will make an official visit to the Patriots facilities in Foxboro. Price is known as a penetrating lineman that many scouts have ranked as a borderline 1st Round talent.

Price had an impressive combine workout (5.12, 34 reps) that backed up what you’ll see on a highlight reel of the Bruin prospect. Careful film study, however, will show an inconsistent motor and a tendency to disappear for stretches.

Price is typically pegged as a one-gap defensive lineman, making it questionable whether he could play in the Patriots two-gap scheme.

Arrelious Benn Visits Patriots

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

University of Illinois wide receiver Arrelious Benn took an official visit to the Patriots facilities this week. Benn is a possession receiver with a big-frame, ideal for a #2 WR in the NFL.

Benn had a disappointing senior season under Ron Zook at Illinois, due in part to poor quarterbacking and a poor system. Some of the blame has to fall on Benn’s shoulders though, with lackluster route running and concentration issues hindering his performance.

Benn is a very intriguing NFL Draft prospect, with grades ranging from the 1st-Round to the 3rd. Look for some team, maybe the Patriots, to take a chance on him Friday night of the draft.

Maurkice Pouncey Visited Patriots

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

Florida center Maurkice Pouncey made an official visit to the Patriots in late March according to various reports. Pouncey declared for the NFL Draft after an impressive junior season under Bill Belichick friend and Gator coach, Urban Meyer.

Pouncey is a versatile interior lineman that has the ability to play both guard spots as well as center. With contract and performance questions about the three interior linemen for the Patriots, OG and C seem like definite need areas for the 2010 NFL Draft.

Currently slotted as a 1st/2nd Round pick by most NFL Draft experts, we have the Patriots taking Pouncey in our 2010 NFL Mock Draft.
