The New England Patriots were back to their old tricks on Thursday night, trading out of the first round while getting a very healthy return package in the process. The Patriots traded the No. 29 overall pick to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for the Nos. 52, 83, 102 and 229 overall selections.

That trade leaves the Patriots with two picks in both the second and third rounds, and eight total picks in the 2013 NFL draft. Formerly restricted by their lack of picks in the draft, the Patriots now have the freedom to find value on the board as it plays out, with plenty of picks available to address their needs.

We are officially in the month of April meaning the NFL Draft is almost here. In less than four weeks we will have answers to all the questions we have been asking for five months.

The Patriots have done well in free agency to get the majority of their own players resigned and replace the ones they lost. The Patriots roster still has a few (glaring) holes that will be filled in the draft, because the free agent market is all dried up at those positions.

This is my latest projection for how the Patriots will use each of their selections in the upcoming draft.

My latest mock draft incorporates all the combine results and latest transactions around the league. Free agency is two weeks away and once it opens team needs will change dramatically. As it stands today, the draft is gaining a little more clarity as we now have an idea or who could be the first overall pick in the draft.

However, at this point in the draft process it’s still an entire educated guess as to who goes where. Here is my best shot.
