Primetime Prospects to Watch: Week 7

Thursday, October 15th, 2015

NEPD Staff Writer CJ Sousa

We have reached Week 7 of the College Football schedule, also known as the unofficial halfway point of the season. Let’s take a peak of my personal top 4, as well as the most important games this weekend impacting the NFL Draft

Playoff Chase:

  1. Ohio State: I wonder, is anybody truly impressed with Ohio State this season?  Their toughest test, Virginia Tech, lost their quarterback halfway through what was a dog fight.  Ohio State has since beat Hawaii and Western Michigan soundly, squeaked by Northern Illinois and Indiana and looked largely unimpressive last week in a 21 point home win vs Maryland.  They do remain #1, but aren’t as rock solid as they seem.
  2. LSU: They rank 6th in total defense, 5th in total run defense. Combine that with the best player in College Football in Leonard Fournette, and you have a winning combination. Quarterback Brandon Harris hasn’t been awful either.  His stats aren’t amazing by any stretch but he has yet to throw an interception this year.  My eyes tell me LSU is better than some of these offensive juggernauts.
  3. Utah: The Michigan win suddenly looks better and better, as Utah continues to handle their schedule behind one of the best backs in the country, Devontae Booker.  Up next for the Utes, home games vs Arizona State, Oregon State, UCLA and Colorado and road trips to USC, Washington and Arizona.  An undefeated season is looking more and more possible.
  4. Clemson: I know, the Big 12 powers (TCU, Baylor) aren’t listed. Fact is, Clemson has quality wins on their resume in a way neither TCU or Baylor does.  I’ve been impressed with Deshaun Watson as well.  He has turned it over some, sure.  However he’s completing 69% of his throws and has been a dual threat as well.  As of right now, they get my slightest of slight nods.

Primetime Prospects to Watch: Week 6

Friday, October 9th, 2015

NEPD Staff Writer CJ Sousa

NEPD is going with a slightly different format this week for Primetime Prospects to Watch.  We are going to highlight the top prospects in the national games you will be watching from noon to past midnight.

We are inching closer to the half-way point of the college football season, where teams (and more importantly prospects) start to distinguish themselves and give clarity from preseason predictions.

In Week 6, the game of the week is #23 Cal vs #5 Utah pitting together two of the nations top offensive prospects, Cal QB Jared Goff and Utah RB Devontae Booker.  NFL bottom feeders such as the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans will be eagerly watching as the top QB prospect Jared Goff leads an undermanned team into Utah, who has looked as strong as any team in the country thus far.

For my against the spread crowd, my lock of the week is Georgia (-2.5) in Knoxville to face Tennessee. (more…)

Primetime Prospects to Watch: Week 3

NEPD Staff Writer CJ Sousa

Week 3 offers up three SEC tilts with an interesting late game in Los Angeles.  This prospect preview will save you the in-game googling and highlight the top NFL Draft prospects in each game.

#18 Auburn vs #13 LSU 3:30 CBS

Always one of my favorite games of the year.  Auburn survived the scare of all scares last week with an overtime win over FCS Jacksonville State, while LSU won in hostile Starkville by the skin of their teeth. I get it with Auburn, and although that game shouldn’t have been that close – there is something to be said for battling back to win when nothing is going right.  Should Jeremy Johnson be the Jeremy Johnson we all expected to see, Auburn could easily walk out of Baton Rouge with a victory.
