In recent years, everybody has been focused on the Denver Broncos as the lone legitimate AFC Super Bowl threat from out west. The Chiefs have even gotten’ some love in recent years as a potential sleeper as well. Oakland.. eh, no need to mention.

However the way I see it, based on a nightmare cap situation in Denver combined with a (in my opinion) vastly overrated roster in Kansas City (losing Eric Berry is a killer), I believe San Diego will rise up as the AFC West Champs this year.

San Diego is in quite the unique situation. (more…)

As the regular season ends and bowl preparations are in full swing, it would seem to me certain player are being over looked heading into the offseason.  The All-America and All-Conference title is a prestigious honor.  It represents a season of hard work and capitalizing on opportunities.  But every year, certain guys fall through the cracks. Let’s see who makes the 2014-15 Draft Prospect All-Underrated team.

QB: Sean Mannion, Oregon State:  A pro-style passer with an easy natural throwing motion, Mannion hasn’t had the senior campaign he would have liked (15 TDs, 8 Int).  However if you can look past his horrendous offensive line, one would see a NFL arm with great touch.  He needs to improve his anticipation of throws as well as his overall accuracy.  However given the right situation, I think Mannion could develop into a player who could potentially start down the road. All hail Amari Cooper. Granted the Tennessee pass defense isn’t exactly the 2001 Patriots, but nonetheless the star junior receiver caught 9 passes for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns. He ran crisp routes, snatched the ball out of the air, and boy can he run after the catch. A night to remember for Cooper.

SEC Spotlight: I’ve been a fan of Mississippi State RB Josh Robinson for some time now, and I think he’s finally getting some of the recognition he deserves. Against a good Kentucky front 7 Robinson ran for 198 yards and 2 touchdowns, including two of the most impressive runs I’ve seen all year. He shows great balance, vision, and eye discipline consistently. He averaged over 8.5 yards per carry; that should say it all.

Tyler Murphy, Boston College (6’2″ 213lbs) vs. USC

It took until week #3, but here’s our first QB to make it onto the Turf Report. Murphy may of not done much through the air this past weekend, but he did orchestrate a masterful performance on the ground as Boston College stunned #9 USC Saturday night. He worked the option play beautifully with his running backs, and kept Southern Cal’s defensive on their heels all game long. His 66 yard TD run in the 4th quarter was not only an example of Murphy’s explosiveness, but his field acumen as well. The 5th year senior who left Gainseville for an opportunity to start at quarterback looks to have found a home with BC. As coach Addazio’s offense continues to evolve, I’m excited to see what else he has in store for Murphy and the Eagles ground game.

Dont'a Hightower Patriots NFL Draft

Dont'a Hightower brings the versatility needed to crack the 1st-round barrier for Bill Belichick. (Photo: ICON SMI)

NEPD Editor: James Christensen

After an excellent win against the Denver Broncos, Patriots fans are antsy for some more football action. Hopefully, our second crack at a Patriots Mock Draft will satiate you a few minutes.

Despite their 14-3 run so far in 2011-2012, the Patriots have a lot of definable needs on both offense and defense, but will Bill Belichick find players that can fit his seemingly stringent guidelines and still present value?
