Patriots vs Bills: All Good Things…

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

NEPD Staff Writer: Doug Kyed

Can you believe it’s already week 17? It seems like just yesterday we were all excited about last year’s defense with the addition of Leigh Bodden and Ty Warren coming back from injury. That didn’t go so well, but the season has so far.

A lot has changed since the last time the Bills and Patriots faced each other. The aforementioned Bodden actually started in that game at RCB. Some other interesting names that participated in that game: Brandon Spikes, Josh Barrett, Landon Cohen and Jermaine Cunningham.

There’s a lot of talk about Tom Brady’s shoulder injury and getting out of this game without any more major injuries, I’m more concerned about getting players back from injury in this game.

Here are some things I’m looking for in Sunday’s rematch against the Bills:

Welker A No-Go for Preseason Opener

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Wes Welker is among those not dressed for tonight’s preseason game against the New Orleans Saints.

After an incredible recovery from knee surgery, all signs point to a return to game action against the St. Louis Rams in the Patriots 3rd preseason game.

Jerod Mayo Bucking to Play Broncos

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

Jerod Mayo is leaving on a jet plane, which is good news for Patriots. We didn’t know when he would be back again.

Setting John Denver lyrics aside, as the Patriots prepare for the Broncos of Denver, Jerod Mayo would instantly help out the sideline-to-sideline defense against the rushing attack of Knowshon Moreno. Correll Buckhalter won’t play in the game, but the shifty star from Georgia will present his own problems.

Mayo, who reportedly sprained his MCL during the opener versus Buffalo, packed a knee brace along with his travel necessities on Friday. The Patriots upgraded his status to questionable, giving him a 50/50 chance of suiting up this Sunday.

50/50 would be music to the ears of Pats RB Fred Taylor, who may miss the rest of the season after ankle surgery. Adalius Thomas, Vince Wilfork, and Wes Welker also missed some practice time, but each is expected to play.

Patriots Injury Report: Wilfork Misses Practice

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

For the second practice in as many days, Vince Wilfork was not able to practice, seriously putting into jeopardy his chances of playing this Sunday against the Ravens. Jerod Mayo also didn’t suit up for practice, but has been seen walking without the aid of crutches.

The other Patriots on the injury report had limited participation:

Randy Moss
Wes Welker
Darius Butler
Jonathan Wilhite
Nick Kaczur
Shawn Springs
Mike Wright
Matthew Slater

Jerod Mayo Injury Update (Sprained MCL)

Patriot fans were greeted with a sickening sight for the 2nd straight home-opener, as defensive captain Jerod Mayo went down with a knee injury early in the game against the Buffalo Bills. Trainers were seen working on Mayo’s left knee, and Mayo was seen flexing the knee and walking with a slight limp.

Reports state that Mayo has a sprained MCL (grade 3) and is likely to miss 6-8 weeks, although conflicting reports have stated that the situation is not that dire. Bill Belichick expressed earlier that Mayo didn’t have a season-ending injury, and these reports seem to confirm that.

We can’t wait to see our defensive leader back on the field, he was sorely missed against the Bills.
