Primetime Prospects to Watch: Week 6

Friday, October 9th, 2015

NEPD Staff Writer CJ Sousa

NEPD is going with a slightly different format this week for Primetime Prospects to Watch.  We are going to highlight the top prospects in the national games you will be watching from noon to past midnight.

We are inching closer to the half-way point of the college football season, where teams (and more importantly prospects) start to distinguish themselves and give clarity from preseason predictions.

In Week 6, the game of the week is #23 Cal vs #5 Utah pitting together two of the nations top offensive prospects, Cal QB Jared Goff and Utah RB Devontae Booker.  NFL bottom feeders such as the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans will be eagerly watching as the top QB prospect Jared Goff leads an undermanned team into Utah, who has looked as strong as any team in the country thus far.

For my against the spread crowd, my lock of the week is Georgia (-2.5) in Knoxville to face Tennessee. (more…)

You wait all year, and just like that it’s gone. Another full college football regular season has passed us by, and what a season it was. But no time for reminiscing, we’ll save that for February…or next week. Nonetheless, there’s a huge slate of games on Conference Championship Saturday in college football which will effect who ultimately plays in the four team college football playoff. Let’s quickly highlight where the committee has the top teams ranked in the country.

#1 Alabama – up next #16 Missouri: No brainer here. Alabama has proven all year long that they in fact are the best team in the country with their lone loss coming on the road at then undefeated Ole Miss. The Tide is loaded with NFL prospects, and should hear at least two names come off the board in the top 10 next spring (Amari Cooper & Landon Collins). (more…)

The situation facing the USC Trojans in Monday’s Sun Bowl isn’t what they had planned for this year’s college football season. Instead of playing in the BCS National Championship Game as many had predicted they would, the 7-5 Trojans will be playing one week earlier on New Year’s Eve, and it will be without senior quarterback Matt Barkley, who will miss out on playing in his final collegiate game due to a shoulder injury.

For draftniks, not being able to watch Barkley is a disappointment, as he is in the mix to be one of the top quarterbacks drafted in a wide-open 2013 NFL draft class that lacks an elite quarterback prospect. Even without Barkley, however, this game has some draft prospects well worth watching, including some at positions the New England Patriots will likely be targeting this April.
