Every week is important, but no month is more important in the college football season than November. With that in mind, let’s look at who’s been our biggest movers up and down the draft board thus far.
Who’s Up:
Paxton Lynch, QB, Memphis: Let’s start with Lynch. He’s gone from just “another guy” to potentially “the guy”. We knew he had the physical attributes, but we didn’t know he would develop so quickly. He is far from a finished product, but his raw physical attributes, impressive size and surprising accuracy on his throws has entered him into the conversation for first quarterback off the board.
Andrew Billings, NT, Baylor: One of my overall favorite players in the country. Billings has easily been the most dominant player along the Baylor defensive front all season long. Easily tosses offensive linemen out of his way, as he also has great technique and keeps his pad level down. He has thrown his name into day one consideration as of this moment.
Corey Coleman, WR, Baylor: If James Jones is a ‘touchdown machine’ for the Packers, Coleman is a touchdown guarantee for Baylor. (more…)
NEPD is going with a slightly different format this week for Primetime Prospects to Watch. We are going to highlight the top prospects in the national games you will be watching from noon to past midnight.
We are inching closer to the half-way point of the college football season, where teams (and more importantly prospects) start to distinguish themselves and give clarity from preseason predictions.
In Week 6, the game of the week is #23 Cal vs #5 Utah pitting together two of the nations top offensive prospects, Cal QB Jared Goff and Utah RB Devontae Booker. NFL bottom feeders such as the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans will be eagerly watching as the top QB prospect Jared Goff leads an undermanned team into Utah, who has looked as strong as any team in the country thus far.
For my against the spread crowd, my lock of the week is Georgia (-2.5) in Knoxville to face Tennessee. (more…)
#23 West Virginia vs #15 Oklahoma 12:00 FOX Sports 1
We thought the Oklahoma secondary was rock solid when they held Tennessee to 17 points. As it turns out, Tennessee’s offense is anemic and Tulsa later hung over 600 yards and 38 points on the Sooners a week later. After a bye week to regroup, the Sooners welcome the high flying Mountaineers’ offense to Norman. Oklahoma’s top two prospects to watch, OLB Eric Striker and CB Zack Sanchez will be in the spotlight after an overall horrid performance last week vs an undermanned Tulsa squad. (more…)
Week 3 offers up three SEC tilts with an interesting late game in Los Angeles. This prospect preview will save you the in-game googling and highlight the top NFL Draft prospects in each game.
#18 Auburn vs #13 LSU 3:30 CBS
Always one of my favorite games of the year. Auburn survived the scare of all scares last week with an overtime win over FCS Jacksonville State, while LSU won in hostile Starkville by the skin of their teeth. I get it with Auburn, and although that game shouldn’t have been that close – there is something to be said for battling back to win when nothing is going right. Should Jeremy Johnson be the Jeremy Johnson we all expected to see, Auburn could easily walk out of Baton Rouge with a victory. (more…)
Will Mississippi State get the monkey off their back and beat Alabama? Or will Amari Cooper & Co. once again own their SEC West rivals?
Some weekends just have a playoff feel to them, and week 12 is certainly one of them. Teams are playing a game of musical chairs for one of the playoff spots, while prospects are running out of time to build their resumes for the 2015 NFL draft. Week 12 has two mammoth SEC match ups, in which all four teams playing all have a realistic shot at the playoffs. Will you be camped in front of a television Saturday? I know I will. Here are the biggest matchups of the weekend broken down. (more…)
The cupcakes will start going away soon, I promise. For a college football weekend that didn’t provide numerous big time match-ups, Week 2 certainly surpassed expectations.
The downward perception of Jarvis Jones’ draft stock is likely to continue following a disappointing pro day performance.
NEPD Staff Writer: Dan Hope
Thursday was a big day on the pro day schedule leading up to the 2013 NFL Draft, highlighted by the pro days held at Georgia and Stanford, both of which were streamed via ESPN3.
I took the time to watch both pro days, focusing on some of the top prospects from each school and evaluating what the workouts showed about their athleticism.
Specifically, the day’s headliner was one of the draft class’ premier prospects, Georgia outside linebacker Jarvis Jones. Having not worked out at the NFL Scouting Combine, the Bulldogs’ pro day was an important opportunity for him to show his athleticism to the scouts. Unfortunately for Jones, he had a disappointing showing.
