I can’t wait. Here is my projection of how the first three rounds of the 2013 NFL Draft will look come April.

2013 NFL Mock Draft: Updated January 3rd, 2013

1. Kansas City Chiefs
Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia (SCOUTING REPORT)
There isn’t an Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III in this draft class, just like most years. That isn’t to say that this class of quarterbacks doesn’t have talent – they’ll just need a little more development.

Smith has phenomenal touch down the field and is comfortable with pressure in his face, two things that the Chiefs have lacked with Matt Cassel under center. Kansas City could also take the best player available here and target a second tier quarterback (Matt Barkley, Ryan Nassib, Mike Glennon, Zac Dysert) with their second round pick.

1. Kansas City Chiefs: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia (Jr.) (SCOUTING REPORT)

A lot has gone wrong for the Kansas City Chiefs this season, but the No. 1 reason why they are projected to be picking No. 1 overall is the poor quarterback play they have had all season. The Chiefs should be focused on selecting the best available quarterback in the 2013 NFL draft, and that quarterback is West Virginia’s Geno Smith.

There are many better prospect in the 2013 draft class than Smith, but the NFL is a quarterback-driven league, and the Chiefs have to get better under center. With a strong arm, a great release and good accuracy and mobility, Smith is the best franchise quarterback option this draft class has to offer.

2013 NFL Mock Draft: Updated December 18, 2012

1. Kansas City Chiefs
Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia (SCOUTING REPORT)
Matt Cassel isn’t cutting it. Brady Quinn isn’t the guy. Draft yourself the most talented quarterback in this class, be patient, and build around him. To me, that guy is Geno Smith.

There are options at quarterback if the Chiefs trade down or move back into the first round (Matt Barkley, Ryan Nassib, Mike Glennon, Zac Dysert), but I feel strongly about how good Smith can be.
