If Welker Doesn’t Re-sign: Three Possible Replacements

What if Welker doesn’t get re-signed?

NEPD Staff Writer: Tony Santorsa

Despite recent news regarding Tom Brady’s contract extension and how there are ongoing negations between the New England Patriots and Wes Welker—I’m still not buying the idea that Welker will be a Patriot in 2013.

In all honesty, there has been no concrete news indicating that Brady’s contract extension has anything to do with Welker—however, you can still speculate that they are related to each other.

Potential Patriot: Charles Woodson

Will Charles Woodson and Tom Brady be teammates once again?

NEPD Staff Writer: Tony Santorsa

After a remarkable seven-year stint with the Green Bay Packers, Charles Woodson will look to play elsewhere this upcoming season as he was released this past weekend.

The 36-year-old has had a phenomenal 15-year career in the NFL, as he’s won one Super Bowl, been to eight Pro Bowls, named All Pro seven times while being named the AP’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2009.

There’s no question that Woodson will make a solid case for Canton when it’s all said and done, but there still is something left in Woodson’s tank.

Potential Patriots: Darrius Heyward-Bey

Darrius Heyward-Bey

You want speed? Darrius Heyward-Bey can give your team speed.

Explosiveness—this is something that you probably feel that the New England Patriots are lacking on offense.

You might feel that the Patriots haven’t had a big-play threat since the days of Randy Moss. You might also feel that Brandon Lloyd wasn’t exactly what you thought he would be: An explosive big-play threat.

If Bill Belichick feels the same way, then one possibly wide receiver that the Patriots might target is Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Possible Patriots: Steven Jackson

Will Steven Jackson end up in a Patriots uniform after all?

NEPD Staff Writer: Tony Santorsa

Heading into the NFL offseason, one position that you’d figure the New England Patriots wouldn’t address is running back. Aside from Danny Woodhead being a free agent, the Patriots appear to be nicely set up entering the 2013 season.

Nicely set up or not, any team can use all the help that they can get.

Percy Harvin: Foxboro Bound?

Tuesday, February 12th, 2013

Was this almost a Patriots uniform?

NEPD Staff Writer: Tony Santorsa

The combination of Tom Brady and Percy Harvin would be lethal—there’s no debating that. In fact, this tandem of quarterback and wide receiver would be something that you could only imagine happening in a video game. However, there is a possibility that Harvin could wind up in a New England Patriots uniform in 2013.

According to CBS Minnesota, the Minnesota Vikings will attempt to trade their star wide receiver this offseason.

One and done with the Patriots? (US Presswire)

Very rarely do you see one of the NFL’s prolific passing attacks part ways with their top two receivers in one offseason—but the New England Patriots are a different breed of animal.

New England Patriots Offseason: Expiring Contracts Analysis

NEPD Editor: Matthew Jones

The New England Patriots enter the 2013 offseason with over $16 million in available cap room, but must distribute that cash between free agency and the NFL Draft; it will be difficult to sign all or even most of their twenty free agents without spending beyond the NFL’s salary cap. Before turning their attention outside of their own organization towards other free agents and 2013 NFL Draft prospects, the Patriots would be wise to determine which of their own free agents they would like to re-sign and which of those prospects they can afford. So who’s worth re-signing? Read on for more information regarding New England’s free agent crop this offseason.
