Did the Patriots really want Wes Welker back?

NEPD Staff Writer: Tony Santorsa

The New England Patriots are right in the middle of the most talked-about transaction thus far in free agency: Wes Welker signing with the Denver Broncos.

News of the transaction surfaced at just about before 5 p.m. last Wednesday night—just one day into free agency. What does it all mean?

On Friday the Patriots hosted three veteran Pro Bowl defenders. To this point they have one signed, sealed and delivered. Safety Adrian Wilson agreed to terms late Friday to solidify the safety rotation. Since Friday, everyone surrounding John Abraham and Dwight Freeney have gone quiet.

Where do things stand with Pro Bowl DE John Abraham?

Report: Patriots sign Emmanuel Sanders to Offer Sheet

Saturday, March 16th, 2013

The Patriots have reportedly signed Steelers WR Emmanuel Sanders to an offer sheet.

NEPD Editor: Mike Loyko

According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette the Patriots have signed Steelers Restricted Free Agent WR Emmanuel Sanders to an offer sheet. Sanders was in Foxboro on Friday, but it was unknown up to this point if he signed an offer sheet. By signing the offer sheet the Patriots force the Steelers to match the contract offer or give him up to the Patriots. In doing so the Patriots will have to surrender their 3rd round pick (#92) to the Steelers.

Update: Multiple sources, including Tom Curran and Adam Schefter have contradicted the earlier and state that an offer sheet has not been signed.

Nick Caserio Bill Belichick

Are these guys ready to bust out the checkbook?

NEPD Staff Writer: Tony Santorsa

Patience. Patience is key when it comes to the New England Patriots.

After sitting back and allowing the free agent market develop, it appears that Bill Belichick and the Patriots are about to start signing some checks.

NFL Free Agency: Day Three Thoughts

Leon Washington Patriots

Does Leon Washington signing with the Patriots mean Danny Woodhead won’t be back?

NEPD Editor: Mike Loyko

Free agency is in full swing. The first wave is in the books and the second wave is winding down. We are entering the point of free agency where the good teams like to operate and find bargains that will complement a contending team. The Patriots have been relatively quiet, outside of the Wes Welker/Danny Amendola swap, but there is plenty of movement throughout the league. One thing is certain, the market is softening and there are a lot of veteran players out there sweating it out, trying to find any deal that pays them.

Here are my thoughts on day three of free agency.

The King is dead. Long live the King.

After six memorable seasons with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, inlcuding hundreds of catches, a couple of drops, and zero rings, Wes Welker is no longer wearing the red, white and blue.

Moving quickly to replace Tom Brady’s favorite target, the Patriots signed 27 year old former St. Louis Rams receiver Danny Amendola.

Potential Patriot: Josh Cribbs

Could Josh Cribbs be the next Patriots return man?

NEPD Staff Writer: Tony Santorsa

It’s only a matter of time until we learn what team wide receiver Josh Cribbs will be signing with.

The latest on Cribbs is that there are two teams that the former Cleveland Browns wide receiver has narrowed it down to, with that teams being the Arizona Cardinals and the New England Patriots.
