Saturday, April 24th, 2010

With the 150th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Patriots select Michigan punter Zoltan Mesko. Mesko will replace Chris Hanson, who will not return to the Patriots.

Mesko had a poor day at the Senior Bowl, but his athleticism and punting skills make him an attractive addition to New England. Mesko averaged over 44.5 yards per punt in his senior season, which also saw the former Wolverine improve his directional punting skills.

Mesko is a native of Romania, also speaks Hungarian. Our friends at the Patriots Hungarian Fan Club have to be ecstatic.

Mesko joins Devin McCourty, Rob Gronkowski, Jermaine Cunningham, Brandon Spikes, Taylor Price, and Aaron Hernandez as the newest Patriots.

2010 NFL Draft: With the 113th Pick…

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

The Patriots have selected Florida TE Aaron Hernandez with the 113th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. The extremely talented receiving tight end is the 3rd Florida Gator to join the Patriots.

Hernandez (6-2/250) is incredibly athletic, running a sub 4.6 forty yard dash. He has a knack for getting open and making big plays. His main weakness is his below average blocking skills. The Patriots have now stocked their once bare TE cupboard with Hernandez, Crumpler, and Gronkowski.

Hernandez joins Devin McCourty, Rob Gronkowski, Jermaine Cunningham, Brandon Spikes, and Taylor Price as the newest Patriots.

Price had an impressive off-season, working out well at the 2010 Senior Bowl. He ran a 4.41 forty, showcasing his vertical speed and ability to separate from DB’s. You can also see his great blocking skills in the video below. Thanks to Universal Draft for the video.

Price joins Devin McCourty, Rob Gronkowski, Jermaine Cunningham, and Brandon Spikes as the newest Patriots.

2010 NFL Draft: With the 62nd Pick…

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

With the 62nd pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Patriots have selected Brandon Spikes, inside linebacker from Florida.

Spikes should play SILB, or the “Mike”, for the Patriots. This will potentially allow Jerod Mayo to move to the “Will” position. Spikes isn’t the fastest linebacker (5.0 40 yard dash) but he has great instincts and tackling skills. Spikes was quoted in his media conference call saying, “Bill Belichick knows pretty much everything about me.”

Spikes joins Devin McCourty, Rob Gronkowski, and Jermaine Cunningham as the newest Patriots.
