The New England Patriots took the field Tuesday afternoon for their fifth consecutive day of practice to open their 2013 training camp. The pads were on for the Patriots and the sun was shining bright as they practiced for two hours and 10 minutes.

Here’s what I took away from what was personally my second trip of the year to watch practice at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

In an effort to completely revamp their wide receiver personnel, the New England Patriots signed four significant veteran wide receivers this offseason: Danny Amendola, Lavelle Hawkins, Michael Jenkins, and Donald Jones. To complement those additions, New England drafted wide receiver Aaron Dobson (Marshall) in the second round of the draft, and Josh Boyce (Texas Christian) in the fourth round. Following the draft, the Patriots added three undrafted free agents at the position: T.J. Moe (Missouri), Kenbrell Thompkins (Clemson), and, most recently, Mark Harrison (Rutgers.) The nine aforementioned players will join returning Patriots Julian Edelman, Matthew Slater, and Kamar Aiken in what should be a fierce roster battle. This article will detail the most likely candidates for roster spots.

2013 NFL Draft Open Thread: Will the Patriots Trade Down?

Armond Armstead

After adding players like former CFL star Armond Armstead, do the Patriots have a good enough roster to avoid trading down?

However, when everybody thinks they have the Patriots intentions figured out, they always seem to surprise.

It might appear that Danny Amendola is replacing Wes Welker as the New England Patriots slot receiver, but that’s not necessarily the case.

Amendola might have been a slot receiver in the past, but he’s a bit more versatile than Welker.

2013 NFL Draft: Patriots Need to Add to Receiving Corps

Deandre Hopkins

Is Deandre Hopkins going to get some first round looks from New England?

NEPD Editor: James Christensen

Chad O’Shea, Patriots receivers coach, better get used to meeting a lot of new faces in 2013. After essentially swapping Wes Welker for Danny Amendola and Brandon Lloyd for Donald Jones, the Patriots certainly aren’t done addressing the receiver position this off-season.

What options are left in free agency and the 2013 NFL Draft?

Wes Welker

Did the Patriots really want Wes Welker back?

NEPD Staff Writer: Tony Santorsa

The New England Patriots are right in the middle of the most talked-about transaction thus far in free agency: Wes Welker signing with the Denver Broncos.

News of the transaction surfaced at just about before 5 p.m. last Wednesday night—just one day into free agency. What does it all mean?
