Patriots vs Bucs: The Aftermath
Thursday, August 18th, 2011
NEPD Staff Writer: Doug Kyed
With all the injuries the Pats have right now, the main thing you notice is how shallow this team looks for a preseason game. Most of the second string players you’ll see on the 53 man roster are either hurt or playing with the first stringers right now. That makes our third string defense look all the weaker.
2011 Patriots Preview: DB’s

With free agency and a season finally on the horizon, I figured I’d look at a position where free agency will probably not play a huge role this season for the Patriots. I’m going to tackle perhaps my favorite NFL position group, the defensive backs.
Revisiting the 2007 NFL Draft
Tuesday, June 15th, 2010
It’s now June in 2010 – after three seasons, many feel that one can accurately assess the success of a particular NFL Draft class. When a certain group of fans and media pundits look back at the 2007 NFL Draft for the New England Patriots, many see one of the worst drafts in history. We are not members of that group. Patriots Keep On Rolling
Sunday, October 25th, 2009
After winning 59-0 last week, the Patriots continued their destruction of the dregs of the NFL cellar, beating the winless Tampa Bay Bucs 35-7.
While Tom Brady threw two interceptions in the game, his accuracy was top-notch throughout the game. Brady hit Sam Aiken and Wes Welker in stride on underneath routes that allowed the WR’s to run it into the endzone for touchdowns, while he dropped a perfect ball into Ben Watson’s awaiting hands for his 3rd TD.
The offensive line, however, wasn’t as crisp as usual. Logan Mankins and Sebastian Vollmer combined for a multitude of holding and false-start penalties, although Vollmer did seem nicked up.
The Patriots defense was able to put pressure on Josh Johnson early and often, forcing three interceptions and scores of quarterback hits. Brandon Meriweather’s pick six to start the game set the tone and the Patriots strip-sack of 2nd string QB Josh Freeman to finish the game, were perfect bookends for the defense.
With the bye week on tap, the Patriots will look to get healed up after a brutal seven weeks. Ty Warren, Sebastian Vollmer, and Randy Moss all got nicked up during the game and will be using the training table early and often this week.
