The day of the 2013 NFL Draft is finally here, when all the speculation will come to an end in a draft that is sure to be full of reaches, steals and surprise picks.

The actual draft is likely to destroy our mock drafts even more than usual this year. Less than 24 hours until the Kansas City Chiefs go on the clock, who they will select at the No. 1 overall pick remains uncertain, though Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel and Central Michigan left tackle Eric Fisher appear to be the most likely choices.

As a result, you should be able to find a wide variety of mock drafts not only here on NEPatriotsDraft, but throughout the NFL Draft Sites Network and the World Wide Web. Here’s my own, unique take on how the first three rounds of the draft could, hypothetically, play out.

Fifteen Thoughts on the 2013 NFL Draft

Bjoern Werner Scouting Report

Bjoern Werner is turning into the forgotten man of the 2013 NFL Draft.

NEPD Editor: Mike Loyko

Before we get back to talking about the NFL Draft and football. On behalf of everyone at NEPD and myself included, we would just like to send out deepest condolences out to those affected by the unspeakable tragedy that struck our city on Monday. No other city in the world is better equipped to deal with such tragedy.

The loyalty, toughness and spirit that our city is known for has already shined bright. The selflessness of those in the city has been inspirational to others around the world. As someone who has grown up in and around parts of the city, I have no doubt that Boston will overcome this and be stronger than ever once it is all over. The families and loved ones of those affected will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.

Bjoern Werner Scouting Report

Bjoern Werner strengthened his case to be the first defensive end drafted in April with a strong pro day Tuesday.

NEPD Staff Writer: Dan Hope

One of the year’s biggest pro days took place Tuesday at Florida State. The pro day was streamed on ESPN3, and there were more than 50 NFL scouts, coaches and executives in attendance representing all 32 teams, according to the broadcast.

The New England Patriots are clearly among the teams with an interest in at least one Florida State prospect, as offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was in attendance Tuesday.

2013 NFL Draft Scouting Notes: Florida State vs. Northern Illinois

The Orange Bowl didn’t turn out to be among the better games of New Year’s Day, but truthfully, it lived up to the expectations of many. The Northern Illinois Huskies earned a BCS berth as the result of a 12-win season in the Mid-American Conference, but against their toughest opponent of the year in the Florida State Seminoles, they were overmatched athletically on both sides of the ball.

There were some NFL prospects worth watching in this game, and as it turned out, it was a couple of late-round picks who stole the slow: Florida State running back/fullback Lonnie Pryor, who was named the game’s MVP after a 134-yard, two-touchdown performance, and linebacker Vince Williams, who made plays throughout the game and all over the field.

2013 NFL Draft: Potential Patriots in the Orange Bowl

The Orange Bowl has the potential to be a very lopsided affair, but that won’t stop it from being one of the most anticipated games of the bowl season. College football traditionalists who favor major programs will be pulling for the Florida State Seminoles to win in dominating fashion, while those who root for underdogs will be hoping the Northern Illinois Huskies make history for the Mid-American Conference with one of the biggest upsets in BCS history.

Draftniks will also enjoy watching this game, as it features one of the 2013 NFL draft’s best overall prospects: Florida State defensive end Bjoern Werner, a likely top-5 draft pick. Werner isn’t the only prospect worth watching in the New Year’s Day nightcap.

Ziggy Ansah NFL Mock Draft

2013 NFL Mock Draft: Updated December 10, 2012

1. Kansas City Chiefs
Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia (SCOUTING REPORT)
The Chiefs need a new quarterback to start off their new era. While the current Chiefs staff is rumored to like Tyler Wilson, Geno Smith is our #1 prospect.

If the Chiefs want to target QB in the later part of round one via trade or on day two (Matt Barkley, Ryan Nassib, Mike Glennon, Zac Dysert), then left tackle Luke Joeckel from Texas A&M or a defensive player could be the pick.
