Primetime Prospects to Watch : Week 11

Thursday, November 12th, 2015

NEPD Staff Writer: CJ Sousa

Not all that interested in Bills/Jets Thursday Night Football?  Or just want to get a jump on the weekend?  No matter the case, NEPD has your viewers’ guide for the key prospects to watch in the prime time match ups, as well as a quick stock check on prospects moving up and down the draft board.

Who’s Up:

Entire Alabama Front 7: I’m kind of kidding here, kind of not.  Alabama has dominated all season long led by DT’s A’Shawn Robinson and Jarran Reed.  Last Saturday night, LSU got a front row seat.   The defensive front bottled up Leonard Fournette all game long, embarrassing a talent laden LSU offensive line along the way.  Robinson, Reed, DE Jonathan Allen and ILB Reggie Ragland all stood out all game long.

Alabama RB Derrick Henry: Henry’s draft stock is really catching steam.  Alabama rode Henry to the Promised Land last week by the tune of  38 carries, 210 yards and 3 touchdowns.  A physical specimen who can carry the load for four quarters, I believe Henry could be productive on a NFL roster today. Primetime Prospects to Watch: Week 8

Thursday, October 22nd, 2015

NEPD Staff Writer CJ Sousa

If you’re looking for major intrigue between powerhouse schools, Week 8 isn’t for you. However that doesn’t mean the NFL Draft evaluators are taking a week off, and neither are the prospects. Some college football is better than no college football, right? Let’s take a look at the matchups I will be playing closest attention to this Saturday.

Iowa State vs #2 Baylor 12:00 ESPN

No, I don’t believe this will be much of a contest. But thanks to a prospect filled Baylor Bears’ roster card this noon game is worth tuning into. In case you haven’t heard, arguably the best story in college football Baylor WR Corey Coleman has absolutely set the world on fire and looks to continue that vs Iowa State. (more…)

Primetime Prospects to Watch: Week 5

#23 West Virginia vs #15 Oklahoma 12:00 FOX Sports 1

We thought the Oklahoma secondary was rock solid when they held Tennessee to 17 points.  As it turns out, Tennessee’s offense is anemic and Tulsa later hung over 600 yards and 38 points on the Sooners a week later. After a bye week to regroup, the Sooners welcome the high flying Mountaineers’ offense to Norman.  Oklahoma’s top two prospects to watch, OLB Eric Striker and CB Zack Sanchez will be in the spotlight after an overall horrid performance last week vs an undermanned Tulsa squad.  (more…)

Primetime Prospects to Watch: Week 3

Thursday, September 17th, 2015

NEPD Staff Writer CJ Sousa

Week 3 offers up three SEC tilts with an interesting late game in Los Angeles.  This prospect preview will save you the in-game googling and highlight the top NFL Draft prospects in each game.

#18 Auburn vs #13 LSU 3:30 CBS

Always one of my favorite games of the year.  Auburn survived the scare of all scares last week with an overtime win over FCS Jacksonville State, while LSU won in hostile Starkville by the skin of their teeth. I get it with Auburn, and although that game shouldn’t have been that close – there is something to be said for battling back to win when nothing is going right.  Should Jeremy Johnson be the Jeremy Johnson we all expected to see, Auburn could easily walk out of Baton Rouge with a victory. Primetime Prospects to Watch: Week 1

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2015

NEPD Staff Writer CJ Sousa

College Football is here (at last)! Opening weekend is full of cupcakes, unknowns, and major point spreads. However, these four games loaded with 2016 NFL Draft prospects will be worth your attention.

UNC vs South Carolina THURSDAY SEPT 3 ESPN 6:00 Charlotte, NC

In years past, UNC has been overwhelmed in this matchup – that won’t be the case Thursday. South Carolina is only returning 12 starters from last year’s 7-6 squad (maybe a good thing), and is a team I’m quite frankly not high on in ’15. Quarterback concerns, defensive worries, and relatively unknown faces in key positions – that describes South Carolina in a nut shell. I expect a shootout, and I’ll take the Tar Heels (+2) to win a close one. 34-30.

North Carolina Prospects

OG Landon Turner : Dominant in short spaces, struggles with flexibility in space. Great frame, but needs to work on technique. Shows good explosion at the point of attack.  Turner should have his way vs the Gamecocks. (more…)

2014 Non-All Americans Impacts Upcoming NFL Draft

Tuesday, August 18th, 2015

NEPD Staff Writer CJ Sousa

In case you haven’t been paying attention, college football is just over two weeks away.  The AP All America list every year always recognizes some of the biggest names in college football for outstanding excellence on the field. As the following list will tell, some pretty outstanding football players tend to be left off that list.  Let’s take a look at some non-2014 All Americans who could have a major impact on the 2016 Draft.

A’Shawn Robinson, DT, Alabama

It’s easy to not pay attention to specific players on the Alabama Crimson Tide, especially those playing non-skill positions.  The casual fan just looks at those traditional Crimson jerseys, expect 11-12 wins, and go on with their day. A’Shawn Robinson is definitely a player to keep your eye on as a potential top 5 pick.  (more…)
