Patriots Draft Pick Review: Alfonzo Dennard

With the 224th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots selected cornerback Alfonzo Dennard out of Nebraska—and let me tell you one thing: This pick was an absolute steal.

Dennard might have came with some character issues, as he was arrested in late April was he allegedly punched a police officer in Lincoln, Nebraska—but prior to his arrest, I had Dennard going in either the late first round or in the second or third rounds.

This selection was a great value pick for Bill Belichick and the Patriots.

The Honey Badger. Tyrann Mathieu’s nickname helped earn him an invite to the Heisman Trophy ceremony, but also hinted at an underlying problem. He just didn’t care.

Does he care enough to get his house in order for the 2013 NFL Draft?

2012 Patriots Roster Projection/Giants: Six Keys To Defeat

It was tough to gleam much of anything from Wednesday night’s lacklaster final preseason game.

So, I’ll make this one brief, because I think we’re all sick of thinking about the preseason in general and especially that boring 6-3 game.

I’ll also have my final roster projection, secondary charting and a couple Alfonzo Dennard play breakdowns after the jump.

In the Film Room: Bubble Watch

Thursday, August 30th, 2012

Did Alfonzo Dennard do enough to make the team last night?    (USPresswire)

The Patriots wrapped up their preseason play vs. the Giants last night. The game was a 6-3 thriller that featured the Patriots resting 21 of 22 starters and basically playing a bunch of 3rd teamers throughout the game. The game was not a total waste, as it was the last chance for players on the bubble to impress coaches and win a roster spot. In this film room post, I focus solely on the handful of players who are on the bubble and how they fared in the game.

Patriots vs. Giants Open Thread: Five Players To Watch

The fourth preseason game is always the toughest to watch. Between the possibility of injuries, the lack of starters and the dire need for REAL FOOTBALL, you spend about three hours on your couch begrudging the existence of the fourth preseason game at all. Of course, you are watching football, so life could be worse.

What I’m trying to do is make tonight’s three hour reminder of a lost Super Bowl a little easier on everyone by highlighting five players to watch carefully. Unfortunately, now that Ross Ventrone is on injured reserve, the slight possibility of seeing everyone’s favorite twitter comedian return a punt is out the window.

Tell us which players you’ll be looking out for below in the comments section.

Tonight marks the fourth and final preseason game for the 2012 Patriots. There’s still plenty of storylines to solve before the final cutdowns on Friday night and those roster bubble players will be who we’re watching the closest.

For the casual fan, the biggest question may be, will Tom Brady be playing? Here are ten things we’re looking for tonight.

Patriots Roster Projection: Version 5.0

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

Can Brandon Bolden sneak onto the roster?

NEPD Editor: Mike Loyko

The Patriots have their final dress rehearsal tonight against the Giants. It will be the last chance for players on the bubble to make this team or practice squad. The team was cut down to 75 earlier in the week, during which some solid veteran players were released. The roster has gotten a little clearer, but there still a couple things that have yet to sort themselves out. Who makes the cut this time and who will be looking for a job on Friday?
