The penultimate collegiate bowl of the year is upon us as 9-3 Arkansas State Red Wolves and the 11-2 Kent State Golden Flashes (ranked #25 in the country) prepare for a meeting in the GoDaddy.com Bowl. The game is light on NFL prospects; however, Kent State left tackle Brian Waters, a likely mid-round pick, could interest New England. He is joined by two potential undrafted free agent prospects on Arkansas State’s roster: quarterback Ryan Aplin and strong safety Don Jones. The first day of the NFL playoffs will take center stage on Saturday, but before the professionals take the stage, there is one early-afternoon bowl game: the BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham, Ala., which will be televised at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN, and features the Pittsburgh Panthers versus the Mississippi Rebels.

There aren’t too many potential New England Patriots in this game, but if the desire for a full Saturday of football leads you to tune into this contest, there are a few players you should keep an eye on.

Two of the top ten scoring offenses in the league will meet tonight in what should be among the most exciting bowls of the year. However, it’s the defensive prospects in the game – including Kansas State linebacker Arthur Brown and Oregon pass rusher Dion Jordan – who are most intriguing. Brown is poised to be selected in the second round or so, while Jordan’s size and length should earn him a spot in the draft’s first twenty picks. Of course, there are a handful of other prospects who will find themselves under scrutiny from NFL scouts tonight; read on for more information.

The Orange Bowl has the potential to be a very lopsided affair, but that won’t stop it from being one of the most anticipated games of the bowl season. College football traditionalists who favor major programs will be pulling for the Florida State Seminoles to win in dominating fashion, while those who root for underdogs will be hoping the Northern Illinois Huskies make history for the Mid-American Conference with one of the biggest upsets in BCS history.

Draftniks will also enjoy watching this game, as it features one of the 2013 NFL draft’s best overall prospects: Florida State defensive end Bjoern Werner, a likely top-5 draft pick. Werner isn’t the only prospect worth watching in the New Year’s Day nightcap.

2013 NFL Draft: Potential Patriots in the Rose Bowl

This year’s Rose Bowl between the Stanford Cardinal and the Wisconsin Badgers presents some interesting matchups involving NFL Draft prospects, most notably when Wisconsin has possession of the football. The Badgers will attempt to establish the ground game early, with running back Montee Ball operating behind offensive linemen Ricky Wagner and Travis Frederick. Stanford’s linebackers, Chase Thomas and Shayne Skov, also project as first or second-day picks.

Additionally, the Cardinal have some offensive talent of their own, most notably tight end Zach Ertz, a first or second-round pick, and running back Stepfan Taylor, a likely mid-round selection who may be able to sneak into the second day.
