Andre Carter’s performance in 2011 was a revelation, both for Carter and the New England Patriots.

However, training camp is rapidly approaching and little progress has been made on a new contract – is there still room for Carter on the Patriots roster?

Now that the draft, free agency and the player acquisition period has come to an end, the 2012 New England Patriots Roster is coming into focus. As of right now the Patriots 90 man roster is loaded with talented players from top to bottom.

Training camp this year will be ultra-competitive as 75 or so players who have a legitimate shot at making the roster will fight for 53 spots.

What will the most competitive position battles be and who will win out? I take a look at all the position battles to watch as training camp is quickly approaching.

Chandler Jones NFL Draft

Where will Chandler Jones fit in early with the Patriots?

NEPD Editor: Doug Kyed

I shot out a tweet today asking for any questions because today is normally my mailbag day. Since the offseason can be a little slow, I’ll be dedicating this column for the next few weeks to one great question.

I was outspoken before the draft on Chandler Jones, and I haven’t yet given my full synopsis of where I think he fits in New England.

One of my followers, @extrapointIan tweeted me: “@DougKyedNEPD where do you see Chandler Jones playing next year? Where do you see him ending up?” My answer after the jump.

Patriots NFL Draft hightower

Looks like a Patriot to me.

NEPD Editor: Doug Kyed

The Patriots added seven players this weekend during the NFL Draft. I can understand having positive or negative feelings on six of them, but not one.

You have to love the selection of Dont’a Hightower.

Recently while talking to my co-workers about how the Patriots fared in the draft, I compared Hightower to a current Patriots player, though it may not be an obvious choice.

New England Patriots: 2012 Roster Reset

Dont'a Hightower Patriots NFL Draft

Where will this versatile rookie fit into the Patriots hybrid defense?

NEPD Editor: Doug Kyed

With the 2012 NFL Draft over, it’s time to focus on where the Patriots stand with all their new parts.

New England is nearing their 90 player limit with 86 players and only a few more needs to fill. It’s safe to say that the offense has only improved over the offseason and the defense is certainly getting there as well.

Some added youth from the draft, young players progressing and key free agent acquisitions will only help this Super Bowl losing team regain their 2011 form.
