NFL Mock Draft 2013: Matthew Jones
NEPD Staff Writer: Matthew Jones
Mock Draft Updated: January 9th, 2013
1. Kansas City Chiefs – QB Geno Smith, West Virginia
Matt Cassel won’t be back next season; some of Andy Reid’s appeal may have been his ability to develop quarterbacks.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars – DT Star Lotulelei, Utah
It seems too early to give up on a potential starting defensive end combination of Jeremy Mincey and Andre Branch.
3. Oakland Raiders – LB Jarvis Jones, Georgia*
Dennis Allen earned a head coaching position largely because of his ability to integrate Von Miller; Jones is similar.
4. Philadelphia Eagles – CB Dee Milliner, Alabama*
Nnamdi Asomugha’s contract makes him a prime candidate for release; Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is a free agent.
5. Detroit Lions – DE Bjoern Werner, Florida St.*
Right end Kyle Vanden Bosch should probably retire at this point; left end Cliff Avril is set to become free agent as well.
6. Cleveland Browns – DE Damontre Moore, Texas A&M*
Jabaal Sheard looks like a long-term option at left end, but Frostee Rucker did not have the impact desired on the right side.
7. Arizona Cardinals – OT Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M*
Considered one of the premier prospects in this year’s class, Joeckel would help stabilize a dismal Cardinals line.
8. Buffalo Bills – LB Manti Te’o, Notre Dame
Selecting Te’o would provide Buffalo with a defensive leader to stabilize a linebacker corps which was inconsistent at best.
9. New York Jets – DE Barkevious Mingo, Louisiana St.*
Rex Ryan’s defense requires pressure in order to execute; Mingo could play end or linebacker in Ryan’s creative schemes.
10. Tennessee Titans – DT Sheldon Richardson, Missouri*
Richardson offers the type of pass-rush pressure which Tennessee’s defensive tackles were unable to manufacture this year.
11. San Diego Chargers – DT Johnathan Hankins, Ohio St.*
Aubrayo Franklin is nearing the end of his career; San Diego still lacks a legitimate full-time option at the nose tackle spot.
12. Miami Dolphins – WR Keenan Allen, California*
It’s possible that Joe Philbin will make a push for Greg Jennings, but until then the Dolphins are still in need of a receiver.
13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – CB Johnthan Banks, Mississippi St.
Banks’ perceived draft stock has seemingly taken a hit lately, but he remains one of the draft’s most physically tantalizing cornerbacks.
14. Carolina Panthers – DT John Jenkins, Georgia
Panthers head coach Ron Rivera knows he must find a way to stop opposing running games; a massive nose tackle would help.
15. New Orleans Saints – DE Sam Montgomery, Louisiana St.*
With Will Smith’s massive contract making him a virtual certainty to be released this offseason, New Orleans needs a pass rusher.
16. St. Louis Rams – OG Chance Warmack, Alabama
Right guard Harvey Dahl has been effective, but St. Louis failed to find a reliable option at left guard, Warmack’s natural spot.
Baltimore WILL draft Kevin Minter LB for sure.
I look for New England to trade back thier 1st pick with a Mid-round team. Dallas? Tampa? for a 2nd, 4th and 4th in 2014.
So the Pats will go for;
2nd pick trade- WR DeAndre Hopkins,
2nd Pat pick- Alvin Bailey OG
3d Pats pick- S/CB D.J. Swearinger
4th pick trade- LB Bruce Talyor
5th Compensatory pick- WR Conner Vernon
7th pick (Tampa)-Brent Russell DT
7th Pats pick-S Brandon Bishop
Joeckel and Lewan IMO are going to be perennial all-pro type tackles, you can take that to the bank. If you have a need for a Tackle, this is the year to trade up.
I read the other day, that Eric Reid Safety from LSU is staying in school, according to his Father…Benny Logan DT is staying also.
Why would the rams draft two tackles in the first round, I get one. we have huge needs at linebackers and widerecievers.
Did you guys see the Florida vs South Carolina game. I heard that thier guard James Wilson looked very good against South Carolina and with all of the current Gators on the team would be an ideal pickup. What do you guys have on Wilson #66 Gators. Looks like a 2-3rd round pick rather than a 5th or 6th round pick
Why the H would u think the AZ Cards would take a QB in the 1st rd. they need help elsewhere, that”s why they’re so f***** up. Buffalo needs A Big Mobile QB which in this case is Logan Thomas, who some are calling the next Cam Newton. then Buffalo could go wr and te with the 2nd and 3rd rd. picks and then def. the rest of the draft. NE Could Definitely use some more help on def. and a few young wr’s.
Pats need another DE, not a DT. Love and Wilfork are both good players. Trevor Scott and Rob Ninkovich are not.
generally agree but ? if a good DE will be there at around 27 besides perfer a DB in 1st and expect 2 or 3 good ones will be there. That leaves the DT for 2nd rd. But do you have a someone in mind for your DE?
As a Bucs fan, I don’t think they”ll take a CB rd. 1.
Wrong! You idiot, Mike J!. they need a corner–or 2!!
Michael Oher is about to be replaced soon??? That is as moronic a statement as I have ever heard!
i get the first pick idea but if we are picking at 1 why should we take Barkley(recent USC QBs havent been doing great) over a Guy whos similiar to Cam newton. id rather go have cam newton if u know wat i mean.
Beware the USC QB
