Good luck, goodbye. (Photo: US Presswire)

NEPD Editor: Doug Kyed

Before I get into the regular Friday mailbag, I have a special announcement to make. This will be my last mailbag here at NEPD and my last column – for now.

I’m pleased and excited to announce that starting on Monday I’ll be writing full time over at NESN.com, which I still can’t get used to saying or putting down on paper, or interwebs, or whatever that this is what I’m doing right now. That means that I got to quit my 9-5 job two weeks ago, and it means that I’ll be doing this. And just this. Full time.

Like I said, I can’t believe it.

Patriots Roster Comparison: 2011 vs. 2012

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

Can Stevan Ridley prove to be as dependable a back as BenJarvus Green-Ellis? (Photo: US Presswire)

NEPD Editor: Doug Kyed

The 2012 NFL season is beckoning, the Patriots have cut their roster down to 53 players and there’s plenty of new additions. There’s only one thing left to do, compare this year’s team to last year’s Super Bowl runner ups.

Obviously the week 1 roster isn’t finalized for the Patriots, so all of this may become moot by early afternoon.

If the Week 1 2011 Patriots matched up against the Week 1 2012 Patriots, who gets the edge? Let’s take sides.

NEPD Editor: Doug Kyed

A storm was a brewin this week on Hard Knocks, but it wasn’t just any kind of storm.

Well, I guess there was one normal kind of storm. Or maybe two of them if you count the one that Jeff Ireland referenced when Vontae Davis was traded… But I digress.

The original storm I was referencing was a storm filled with trades, roster cuts, tears and overall ineptitude. All of that and more after the jump in my episode four recap.

Joe Philbin spots a pair of untied shoes in the distance, his blood boils. (Photo: US Presswire)

NEPD Editor: Doug Kyed

As each week of Hard Knocks progresses, the more and more I’m driven crazy by Joe Philbin.

He’s just one of those passive aggressive, micro-managing, nitpicky, detail obsessed guys that reminds me more of a grocery store assistant manager than a head football coach.

More on Joe Philbin and the rest of episode three of Hard Knocks inside.

Pre-Game Meal: Cincinnati Bengals

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

Tom Brady just jumped up in the tax brackets.

NEPD Staff Writer: B. Delabarrera

FINALLY! We’ve arrived at the 2010-2011 opening weekend, and only a short three weeks after Roger Goodell saw his own shadow! The 2009 AFC East Champion New England Patriots will host the Cincinnati Bengals, the reigning crown of the AFC North.

Like most of their northern counterparts, Cincinnati comes out of the gate running down teams’ throats. Normally this really wouldn’t worry me, however, now with the WR-tandem of Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens, the Bengals prove to be quite the challenge for a young, hopeful defense that is looking to find their identity.

Spanish Teachers Protest Ocho Cinco

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Editor’s Note: This article is from September, 2008

When Chad Johnson legally changed his name to Chad Ocho Cinco to reflect the 85 on the back of his jersey, he didn’t figure that he would instantly be making thousands of enemies nationwide.

Aaron Carlson, Spanish teacher from Kearney, Nebraska explains: “Chad’s little prank is making it difficult for us to effectively teach numbers. Students think that we are teaching them wrong because this clown can’t use a dictionary.”
