Jeff’s Three round mock with trades

NEPD Staff Contributor: Jeff Fidler

Jeff went and did it again. No matter how you feel about your teams’ picks, you have to give him a ton of credit for taking the time and putting in the effort to do a full 3 round mock including trades.

1) Bills (From Cleveland) – Josh Allen. Bills don’t wait for luck or other teams. They get the only guy in the draft that can throw through a buffalo snow storm & the tables fans use for wrestling practice before, during, after games.

2) Giants – Quenton Nelson. I don’t have any sources but one person I talk to insist they want to trade back. If they don’t it’ll be Nelson or a QB. I’m leaning Nelson bc Gettleman is an Eli guy.

3)Jets – Baker Mayfield. I’ve been a Baker fanboy for well over 2 years. Amazing how far he’s come. Anyway the jets really love him along w/ 6-7 other teams.

4)Browns – I’ve been on the Chubb to Cleveland bandwagon forever now.Garrett, Chubb & Ogbah would a sensational defensive line.

5)Arizona (From Denver) – Sam Darnold – Arizona sees an opening & strikes. Denver gets a ransom for the sought after QB & has always wanted to trade out of this pick.

6) Colts – Saquon Barkley. Barkley & Mack would be quite the duo behind a healthy QB.

7) Tampa Bay – Derwin James. James & the Bucs are a perfect fit from a scheme standpoint & Tampa needs all the help they can get to turn that team around.

8)Chicago Bears – Roquan Smith. Bears fans know what a good MLB looks like & they need one here. Smith, besides QB, is a top 5-10 overall player in this draft w/ Tremendous upside.

9)San Francisco – Harold Landry. Landry is instant pass rush & very good all around player. He’s not the most versatile rusher, that’s true but there aren’t many in college or pro’s w/ his get off, ability to get flat & finish. Landry, Thomas & Buckner would be an incredible core to build around on defense.

10)Oakland – Minkah Fitzpatrick. If their last few draft picks from the secondary pan out the Raiders would one of, if not the most versatile secondarys in the league. Joseph, Obi, Conley & Minkah would be quite package to unleash on 3rd & long.

11) Miami – Josh Rosen.  I can see Josh sliding a bit farther on draft day then some think & it’s Miami’s gain.

12) Browns (From Bills) – Vita Vea. Browns aren’t done adding that special DL & it just got scarier. How’s Vea, Ogun, Garrett, Chubb & Ogbah for a rotation up front? Vea is the attacking NT everyone thought Danny Shelton was a few years back.

13)Washington – Denzel Ward. I’ve had a CB here for weeks. Washington has a lot of needs tbh & CB is one of them.

14)Green Bay – Marcus Davenport. They both fit each other in terms of a need & place for both. Davenport isn’t an immediate impact starter but he’ll make an impact year 1.

15)Denver (From Arizona) – Isaiah Wynn. Broncos need OL help & Wynn is criminally underrated. Maybe it’s the position but besides QB there aren’t many players better in the draft.

16) Baltimore – Mike Mcglinchey. Ravens need help at WR but smart teams don’t draft WR’S in the 1st round (joke here) & they need help opposite Stanley.

17) Chargers – Maurice Hurst. Hurst might fall … or he might not. Obviously his medicals are big but if they check out good luck defending Bosa, Ingram & Hurst on subs.

18)Seattle – Connor Williams. It’s amazing how bad their OL is. Speaks to Lynch & Wilson’s greatness. Williams gives them versatility & toughness. Something the lack along that group. Along with talent.

19)Dallas – D.J. Moore. Moore is more athletic, productive & younger than Calvin Ridley. A player rumored to the Cowboys a ton over the last few months.

20)Detroit Lions – Derrius Guice. Guice might be the best RB in the draft & one of the best overall players on this class.

21) Bengals – Leighton Vander Esch. The Bengals need a QB on defense & that’s exactly what Vander Esch brings just that & more.

22)Browns (From Bills) – Tremaine Edmunds. Edmunds is a BPA pick. Browns are loading up on defense & building a monster.

23)New England Patriots – Jaire Alexander. Alexander is my CB1 & one of the biggest playmakers in the draft. He has great route rec & ball skills, instincts & c.o.d.

24)Carolina – Rashaan Evans. Evans fills a need that got a little greater when the great Thomas Davis retired last week.

25)Tennessee – Calvin Ridley. Tennessee gives Mariota the final piece to an  loaded wr corp/offense. Seriously that offense might be as good as the Browns defense?

26)Atlanta – Taven Bryan. Bryan & Garrett would be the perfect inside presence to complement Takk & Vic outside.

27)N.O. Saints – Justin Reid. Reid & Williams would be quite the S tandem to patrol QB’S avoiding Lattimore.

28)Pittsburgh – Jessie Bates III. Again the pairing of Bates & Davis is too much to pass up.

30)Jacksonville – Courtland Sutton. A big body target to replace Hurns, help Blake & complement Lee.

31)Chargers (From Patriots) – Lamar Jackson. Chargers are a few that really like Jackson & take a shot w/ the always willing Patriots.

32)Phila – Sony Michel. Michel is the perfect piece for Pederson in Philly.

33)Browns – Mason Rudolph.

34)Giants – Nick Chubb.

35)Browns – Isaiah Olivier.

Jeff and Triston did great jobs with multi round mocks here. The time and effort showed with the quality. I do think Jeff’s is a long view draft but a little short on help this year barring lots of injuries. Triston’s no trade mock is very good but Ostman seems a big reach, otherwise good job. I haven’t changed my mock in some time now and not going to at this point. I was able to fill the bottom selections. As a reminder and update it is:

    1) Kolton Miller OT ( providing Mike Gliuchey is not available)
    1) traded down to Detriot for a 2nd, 4th and 5th.
    2) Duke Ejiofor DE
    2)Tim Settle DT
    2) Kyle Lauletta QB
    3) Ade Aruna DE/LB ( Look to LB)
    4) Ito Smith RB
    5) Shaquem Griffin LB/Saf ( look to SS)
    6) Justin Watson WR
    6) Davente Downs ILB ( injury may require IR in 2018)
    7) Sione Teuhema OLB ( special teams/developmental prospect)

  4. Stephen J says:

    Per Ian Rappaport

#Wisconsin CB Nick Nelson had successful surgery to fix his torn meniscus today, and he received good news in the process. Dr. James Andrews did not need to fully repair the meniscus — he trimmed it & cleaned it out. That means recovery is 6 weeks, not 3-4 months. Ready for camp.

A CB that the Patriots showed interest in.

    • kevinz says:

Glad to see this is good player plus i think gonna be a connection draft. whether from wis or Iowa both have nice talent to pick from in draft.

    • Matt says:

Well that was a shock. Won’t happen but it was a shock. Also don’t see Josh Adams falling to the 5th round maybe he will be picked up in the 3 or early fourth but deff not in the 5th.

  5. Daniel says:

If we made this trade, I would prefer the team utilize those picks to select the following players (understanding you completed a much more difficult task by projecting who other teams would select):

23 – Leighton Vander Esch LB

    43 – Orlando Brown Jr. – LT

    48 – Dallas Goedert TE

    63 – Billy Price OG/C

    84 – Quin Blanding FS

    95 – PJ Hall – DT

    198 – Travin Howard LB/SS

    210 – Dimitri Flowers RB – HB/FB

    219 – Genard Avery LB

    Sign:

    Navarro Bowman

    Derrick Johnson

    Michael Floyd

    Johnny Manziel

Again, these are players I like. I recognize in the context of your mock, these same players wouldn’t necessarily be available.

  6. Russell says:

No CB with the 1st pick, if LB Edmunds drops into the 20’s, BB trades up (Cinny?)to get him. Not sure about WR Kirk, I think WR Quinn is a better choice with a later pick..
No way N.Y.G. take an OG over RB Barkley. Buffalo may be better to trade with the N.Y.G. and take RB Barkley, (Giants get Buffalo’s 1st #12, 2nd #53, 2nd #56 & 2nd 2019.) THEN the Giants can take OG or OT, and trade for Patriots 1st #31 to get a QB. Patriots get Giants 2nd #53 & 3d #66.
I like the trades mocks, but maybe better to list trade terms??

  7. Big Dan From Maine says:

I really hope the draft works out this way. However I don’t see anyway Tyrell Crosby, and Christian Kirk fall this low. Wondering what your reasoning was or is it just wishful thinking?

I REALLY think we will take a QB somewhere in the first 3 rounds.

I like Jaire Alexander with our first pick I think that’s REALLY a solid pick if he is there, and hope he is. Not big on the Duke Ejiofar pick early second, I think you will need to take Tyrell Crosby here.

Really a great job an I know it must have been a ton of work. Enjoyed it.

    Corner Backs and The Patriots

I went back and looked at the Patriots and their CB’s from over the years. One consistent theme with the Patriots and CB’s seem to be they draft and bring in Undrafted Free Agents that have high amount of solo tackles in a season and/or a high amount of career solo tackles along with a high amount of PBU’s. Then it’s combined with a very good to elite athletic measurement usually 3 cone and 20 shuttle but can be an elite broad vert or 40. As you will see it is usually both on field production of Solo Tackles and PBU’s plus a very good to elite athletic measurement. By no means am I saying this is the only things they look at but it is something that each of the players have had through out the years.

  9. lenny says:

If the Patriots can strengthen their defense early and still come away with Daniels/Crosby/Kirk, they will have had an extraordinary draft. Given how you anticipate the dominoes will be falling, trading down from 31 to 48 makes more sense than trading up to 5. I am concerned that the offensive players you have selected will all be gone by early Round Three, but we will see.

“Sony Michel. Michel is the perfect piece for Pederson in Philly.”

He would also be a strong choice for the Pats one pick earlier, but there will probably be good backs available into the third day so from a value standpoint trading down is valid.

And if Edmunds falls one more slot to 23, he would be a great addition to the Patriot defense.

Finally, Billy Price will probably slide due to the pectoral injury, but his Ohio State tape is really strong. He reminds me of Gene Upshaw, who would knock someone down and rather than savoring the moment like most blockers would then immediately look to knock someone else down. Price will toughen the interior of any line and he can play center/guard.

  10. CC says:

I really-really like the James Harrison (C) pick.
I also dig the Ronnie Harrison (S) pick.
Just not really sold on the Duke Ejiofor (DE)… Torn Labrium? Uhg, I still have a bad taste in my mouth regarding Dom Easly, lol.
I just assume if that were the case get I’d rather slip in a total beaste mode & super stoute (D.T.) in there respectively. I think the T. FLowers and Derik RIvers( fingers crossed) @ (RDE) and A.Claybourn and D. WIse, Jr. @ (LDE) can get the job done and another (DT) addition would be better than anyone with injury issues? Be it big or small.
I love the Cristian Kirk pick, I just question if he’ll be there that late?

Good take on it. Can’t wait!

  11. macspak says:

    GREAT JOB!

I am curious as to what you see as the terms of each trade. Also would be helpful to list the position next to each player because while I recognize most by no means do I know all.

I already can hear Russell saying NO CB in the Pats first round.
