NEPD Staff Writer: Mike Gerken
Well, the Patriots made a couple of picks last night and I would think most fans are happy going into Day 3. I will go in depth on all the picks after the draft, but both players were in my big board series, so you can get some quick notes on them now if you like. There is a lot of talent still on the board and the Patriots can still get some players who can make this team and have an impact this season. With the draft picks that will be made today as well as the UDFA guys that will be added later, this is the day good teams can become great. I love the idea of teams unearthing hidden talent and getting those Day 3 gems. The Patriots have found success in the later rounds and I think today will be no different. Good luck to all the draftees today and lets hope the Patriots can keep up the positive momentum from last night.
PFF is saying that Jacob Hollister is a steal with comparable to Julia Thomas. I saw Highlights and he looks like a beast doesn’t block much but I see some Travis Kelce in him.
Russell, what happened with that NH all purpose back
Yes love this one
Jason Thompson has reached an UFA agreement with the New England Patriots.
Mark Daniels
Patriots have signed UDFA LB Harvey Langi
Krishawn Hogan, WR, Marian signing with #Colts
There it is
Josh Augusta, DT, Missouri is signing with the #Patriots per @todpalmer
Will you guys have a UDFA tracker this year just for Pats or again for entire NFL?
already up!
Don’t think DE Dimik got drafted??
Not as yet
No Dimick went undrafted JoJo Mathis went undrafted(Medical)
Mathis was drafted sadly. Washington I believe
oops, no he did not
Like to sign Mathus, can he pass physical?
If injury isn’t something chronic he should recover so signing him even if he spends time on PUP I believe would be a good investment. Top of my list.
Packers picked Devante Mays RB Utah St happy for him
PFF on Antonio Garcia
477 pass block snaps
7 pressures allowed
0 sacks allowed
98.9 pass blocking efficiency (2nd out of 99)
21 spots to fill with undrafted and free agents.
McDermott was one of my best available players left. I think he needs to add strength, but he has the size and athleticism the Patriots look for in their lineman.
Now we need some LB, S and WR as UDFA. Let’s hope BB get some of our binkies.
Josh Augusta DT
Harvey Langi LB
David Jones S
Jalen Myrick CB
Elijah Lee LB
Keion Adams EDGE/OLB
Jimmie Gilbert LB
Bryan Cox Jr EDGE
Jerod Evans QB
Malachi Dupre WR
Thomas Sperbeck WR
Austin Carr WR
These are the guys i like.
I knew it was you Turbo who mentioned Augusta that is one I will be watching since Elijah Qualls just came off the board. Still plenty of picks to go though.
Yeah, Stephen i really like Augusta. He’s still a bit heavy i think, but for that size he’s extremely athletic and a great run stopper. After Branch is gone he may be something special with Valentine.
CB Jalen Myrick was picked by Jacksonville. I would add CB Jack Tocho, RB Crossan, to the list, Not sure if DE Hunter Dimik got drafted?
Tocho just went to Minnesota
Totally forgot about Crossan, thanks Russell.
Wow BB and company really didn’t like this draft class 4 picks the lowest amount ever. 6 picks was the previous lowest total.
that’s amazing – 4 picks – 2 TE AND 2 OT
Did Rivers and Wise just become TE’s crap we need DE’s
We gave up our 7th to move up so we finished drafting
Two offense two defence, now we see who is on the UDFA menu.
Conor McDermott? Huh?
what did we give up
Good prospect for back up OL. Should be plenty of UDFA talent but Pat’s don’t have many needs so will be looking for those under rated values.
Wow didn’t expect that
Pats traded up I see now at 211
I think the Pats may have traded up into the 6th. I see NE 2 times on the ticker now. Hmmmm
just saw that Davenport went the pick just before Wise. He was in my mock. Wonder if he was there is BB would have picked him instead of Wise?
We may never know but my guess would be no. Garcia is more Pro Ready and Davenport needed more development I’d imagine he would of been later than Garcia but at the same time that is what may have caused BB to come up and get Garcia since both were on his board.
I’m thinking OL or S with the next pick
What’s your thinking on OL Mac? I’m hoping an ILB or slot CB.
OL Andrew Eide maybe
a trade up and take Connor McDermott – LOL!
DT Or LB or trade or safety or wr or i don’t know
S Kai Nacua
do we have all of next year’s picks or have we traded or been stripped of any?
A Conditional 4th for Eric Rowe
How is Elijah Qualls stills on the board? I thought he was supposed to be like a second rounder
Still quite a few picks until the Pats are back on the clock, but is there anyone you really want that is still on the board?
Jo Mathis (68)is the only guy left in my top 100 left on the board. next highest rated player is Isiah Ford at 103
Would Bill triple dip at DE? Could be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’d like it but doesn’t seem that likely. Oh well!
Xavier Woods for sure
Literally right after I typed that I looked up and there he is going to the Cowboys…
Fadol Brown go? There was another safety named Johnson projected in the 6th round or so. Can’t remember his school or first name.
Jadar Johnson or John Jhohnson maybe? John Johnson went in the 3rd round, Jadar is still available.
I knew John went as he was one of my binkies. Jadar is who I was thinking of.
Earle, I am having trouble of understanding your last 2 comments, they appear to say opposite things.
Yea Mac, the one at 3:41 was me the other the fake. The A$$ is at it again.
imposter, not me
The commentators are doing a good job giving us insight on all the first and second round picks. Like hearing about the human aspect of the player as well as his talent.
Darn ESPN keeps running round 1 picks on the scroll as if any who cared didn’t already know. Two day old news geese. I want to know what’s happening today, find it annoying not being able to keep up.
Here is a link that you can use on the computer Steve
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/tracker#dt-by-round-input:5/dt-tabs:dt-by-round
Much better! Thanks Stephen.
reading through the posts and see the imposter is back
I am trying to delete all his posts.
Mike what did you like about James O’shaugnessy in 2015 that he was a binkie. Also shows you that possibly someday maybe not right away binkies come home.
I thought he was a smooth mover with good hands and an above average blocker. I am trying to find my old notes on him, but they might be on my old computer. I will post if I find them.
Hi guys, just joining. Saturdays are busy days for me. What has happened?
1 Pick
Deatrich Wise Jr with the 131st pick
2nd Pick 183 traded for Chiefs TE James O’shaugnessy and the 216th Pick in the 6th.
Next Pick is that 216th Pick
Thx – who the heck is James O and how many TE’s now on the roster?
Mike Gerken knows more about him than I do but I came across this earlier
James O’Shaughnessy had the most Special Teams tackles of any Tight End in the NFL last season. Another proven commodity instead of unknown. Adds depth to the roster.
Guys I like who are still available on Offense:
Conor McDermott, OT
Jerry Ugokwe, OT
Dan Skipper, OT
Jon Toth, C
Eric Saubert, TE
Malachi Dupre, WR
Noah Brown, WR
Robert Davis, WR
Trent Taylor, WR
De’Veon Smith, RB
Brad Kaaya, QB
Jerod Evans, QB
Y’all just ignore his As$ he just wants attention don’t give it to him
Wow just noticed Brian Hill to the Falcons the 3 headed monster attack.
Nope not me again.
Guys I like who are still available on Defense:
Brian Allen, Cb
Channing Stibling, CB
Xavier Coleman, CB
Xavier Woods, S
Nathan Gerry, S
Joe Mathis, Edge
Ifeadi Odenigbo, Edge
Keionte Daves, Edge
Fadol Brown, Edge
Ben Boulware, LB
Henry Langi, LB
Davon Godchaux, DL
Good list Mike keeping my fingers crossed.
I can’t even believe it myself, but so far i like all of the Browns picks. They are A+ for me so far.
Disagree they take a QB who had a soph year of struggles and incompleations, will not play this year perhaps next and when he does he will be be playing catch up. Most critical need for them and they muffed it IMO.
A Bunch of plays by Deatrich Wise against Missouri
https://twitter.com/MyColtsAccount/status/819001696013680640
He’s growing on me.
I thought Jakes Butt was already taken. Tee.
Nope Stephen J impostor

For those who do not like the Wise pick, wait until fall and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Sad to see Grover Stewart go to the Colts.
Not bad times, he could work out.
Trey Hendrickson got the @Shrine_Game notoriety, but Deatrich Wise Jr. was the real story. 8 pressures (2 sacks) and 5 stops
The Patriots have done exactly what I thought they would do. Draft a guy who can learn and replace Ninkovich next year and draft a guy who can replace the Chandler Jones role. Add in a long term Left Tackle, and this has been a strong draft so far.
The talent in this draft is so deep, I think there will still be good players available when they pick next.
I’m hoping for some ILB depth and a slot CB. I have Eric Wilson ILB and Xavior Coleman CB in mind. What’s on your board Mike?
This is not me guys some smart a$$ Pat’s hater is on board. Likely the same a$$ hole who pretended to be Russell Easterbrooks a couple years back. Hay fella take a flying leap and get a life.
Think Mike pulled the fake post, thanks Mike.
I am trying to keep up with this moron who is doing this. The fact that someone will take the time to make up new emails just to post idiotic stuff baffles me.
Mental deficiency likely. Thanks again.
I like the what the Patriots are doing very much. Other players
for possible picks are.
Lorenzo Jerome S Saint Francis
Damien Mama G USC
Jarron Jones DT Notre Dame
There should be a lot of UDFA that could help Patriots.
I don’t like the Wise pick, it was a reach too i think, but we still have 2 pick.
We still need a safety and a lb. Langi would be obvious if he’s still there or Marquel Lee maybe.
For safety Nate Gerry or David Jones. My joker guy is Josh Augusta DT.
Question? Thought someone reported BB traded our 5th for a 6th and 7th. Was that legit?
Agree with Turbo we should get another LB, is Eric Wilson still on the board, I’m losing track. Not sure Saf is current need but if a good one is still around I’m good with that. Then how about Jake Butts TE. He prob won’t play until next year but really good investment.
We traded our 5th for the Chiefs 6th (216) + TE James O’Shaughnessy.
And yeah, i think Eric Wilson is still there. Butt is gone tho.
Constantly playing catch up here. Running from computer to TV in bedroom. Getting my exercise, doctor will be pleased. LOL
Nope Jake Butts is gone.
I honestly think you are selling the Wise pick short. That is right where he should have gone and I think he is a great fit for the Patriots. There was a lot of talent on the board, but this is a solid pick IMO
Wise went right where I thought he would go. I like the pick don’t love it. I thought there were other players on the board that filled bigger needs, but I did think Wise would be a target. Here is what I wrote earlier about him:
Deatrich Wise, Arkansas (6’5″, 274 Lbs.): Wise fits the body type the Patriots look for in their Defensive Ends. To go along with his frame, he boasts really long arms and huge hands and he uses them well. He extends well, keeping defenders off him and directing them where he wants them to go. He has a good first step and a powerful punch to stun lineman, getting them off balance and out of sorts. He is strong at the point of attack and does a nice job setting the edge. Wise is not a great pass rusher. He lacks the necessary change of direction and lower body flexibility to consistently be effective. His pass rush counter moves are undeveloped and he relies purely on his strength to get pressure on the QB. He is a former teammate of current Patriot Defensive End Trey Flowers and the team may want to go to the well one more time after Flowers has shown to play well above his draft slot so far in his young career. Grade: 4th round

Well that answers my question, thank’s Stephen.
Well I do feel slightly better about the pick now, thank you. Wonder does he have any prospect to be able to move inside prn (if necessary)?

I don’t think there’s any safeties worth drafting if Xavier Woods is off the board by the time we’re on the clock again. Assuming our last picks stand, I would want any combination of
LB’s Dylan Cole/Harvey Langi
DT Grover Stewart
G/C Chase Roullier
Our #131 deadrich wise Jr. DE Ark.
6-5 278 has the size but not very fast 40. no other times yet. Rated a 4th rd’er on draft scout. Had a couple other guys in mind though.
Reports not encouraging. slow lat movement not much twitch, can’t find shuttle or 3 cone times.
Deatrich Wise… didn’t see that coming. First pick I’m kinda disappointed in, I didn’t think we needed to double dip.
IMO, 2 rounds early
Yeah I would’ve felt better if they double dipped later
Been expecting a double dip at DE only earlier. Have to look up Wise I don’t know to much about him.
Think Rivers plays more OLB, covering backs and blitzing. Wise , hopefully, is a Ninkovich replacement
Hope he’s better then scouting reports sound.
Another solid pick for the Patriots. I think most fans thought Wise would be on the Patriots board. We have a big gap here now.
Need some encouragement Mike. What do you see on Wise others don’t?
Carlos Watkins?
Yea, lot’s of guys who were expected to go earlier are still on the boards.
Sharpe to Raiders, Pats picking soon. Have there been any hard falls the Pats should scoop up?
Would say Jake Butt but it’s looking unlikely we get him due to the trade for James O’Shaughnessy
I’m hoping for Xavier Woods here
that would be a good choice imo
Ebukam goes, was a later round guy I liked
Dang, Wilson goes as well. I was hoping he would be the pick for the Patriots coming up
Desmond King still there. Let’s hope BB picks him.
Please do not ruin this chat with childish antics. I don’t want to have to shut it down. 9 picks until the Patriots are on the clock
James O’Shaughnessy was also a binkie of mine when he came out. I wanted the Pats to target Jake Butt, however I don’t think they will now since they basically used a draft pick to acquire one.
Someone is having fun. Where are we at now pick wise.
Please get another handle mate. The comment at 12:42 is me, comment at 12:49 Not mine!!
A bunch of waste of human beings got on the Patriots draft web site.
The fact that someone would spend their free time messing with people on a New England Patriots blog obviously need to reevaluate they’re life priorities.
Daniel Sullivaan sounds like an Irish whino that likes college men.
Carl Lawson to Cincy, and Turbo, speak for yourself.
It was not me mate. Some dude is using our names for fun.
Do you guys see King as a SS? Slot corner? I feel like those are only two needs in the secondary and I thought King was a boundary corner or free safety
I think he can do a little of both, that is why I like him. versatility
King fits the role held by Logan Ryan pretty well can play both but better at SS and Slot/Nickel in my opinion. Can be burnt by straight line speed guys deep.
Patriots drafting small school players so far and you never know they may end up
with one of the University New Hampshire players.
I really watch football for those really tight pants on the players, I bet Stephen feels the same.
All my 3rd day safeties are basically gone. Don’t like this.
Why who was selected
Jenkins, Thompson and Eddie Jackson are all gone…
Desmond King and Xavier Woods are still out there.
Thanks for the update what about Desmond King
I really like both of them, but a SS would’ve been my choice if possible. I don’t even know why Desmon King is falling so hard.
Green Bay with Kevin King, Josh Jones, Montavious Adams and now Biegel are having an A+ draft, and Stephen, I’m wearing my lucky jock strap , wanna see.
What pick are we at did it start yet.
Pick 112 just in Chicago, ?WR Westbrook? darn talking heads talk but don’t tell us anything.
Wow what happened with Chicago this year have they replaced Cleveland
We are at #118 Wash. pick is in COMMERCIALS. Hey, do we still have a 4th #131?
You guys are my eyes and ears today since there was complaints last night keep me informed to where we are at who was selected.
Why is Carl Lawson still on the board?? Hey Mike G, what are you wearing right now??
Guess who is back duplicate individual
a smile
Finally getting a chance to look at my lists instead of going off the top of my head. My goodness there is a lot of players I still like for this team.
There are still 3 binkies still on the board for me.
Joe Mathis
Grover Stewart
Xavier Woods
Sure are still lots of good prospects but what about that 5th we traded?
O’Shaugnessey was a Pinkie of mine in 2015, so I am cool with that. We could see trade down to get a few more picks.
James O’Shaughnessy had the most Special Teams tackles of any Tight End in the NFL last season. Another proven commodity instead of unknown. Adds depth to the roster.
4 Zach Banner G USC
6 Jalen Reeves Mabin ILB Tennessee
6 Deatrich Wise DE Arkansas
7 Andres Knappe OT Connecticut
7 John Johnson S Boston College
John Johnson was selected by the Rams last night with the 91st pick.
Patriots already active today. They trade their 5th round pick to the Chiefs for James O’shaugnessy and a 6th or 7th pick. I am reading conlficting reports
Prospects i like for us:
Rayshawn Jenkins S
Desmond King S/CB
Marquel Lee LB
Joe Mathis DE
George Kittle TE
Tedric Thompson S
Eddie Jackson S
