  1. Mike Gerken says:

    Hi All,
Just an FYI, I started a thread for today. If you want to continue the conversation over there, that would be great. Looking forward to today.

  2. Russell says:

    Hard to believe some of the guys left on the board;
    But MOCK IT;
#131 – CB/S Desmond King, OG Dorian Johnson, or S Eddie Jackson
#183 – LB Eric Wilson , or TE Jake Butt
#239 – DE Evan Schwon, S Donald Payne, RB Dalton Crossan, or DE Jimmie Gilbert

    • Russell says:

OH yes; CB Jack Tocho N.C. State at #239!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • steve earle says:

Right Russell TE Butt even as PUP would be a great investment as would any of those you mention. Looking forward to today. See you on next page.

  3. Jeff says:

Sad to see the Pats pass on Tarell Basham (and Daeshon Hall), I would’ve been happy with no trades, Basham and Desmond King from the third, but seems like they were drafting a bit for need targeting the edge rusher and immediately trading up for their tackle as well. Also sad that they couldn’t manage to grab a DB in the 3rd round in such a strong crop.

I think the biggest remaining needs would be for 1 more DE (to push Grissom for the 5th roster DE spot or practice squad spot), interior O-line depth (just Karras and practice squad guys currently), and TE (young depth would be great especially with lots of good talent still at this position).

I’m hoping that Kittle or Wise Jr. fall to the Pats in the fourth. Des King would be awesome too.

  4. Daniel Sullivan says:

Players I like for Patriots on Day 3.
    George Kittle TE Iowa
    Travin Dural WR LSU
    Jake Replogle DL Purdue
    Erik Magnuson G Michigan
    Blake Jarwin TE Oklahoma St.

    • Jeff says:

I’d be very happy with Kittle in the 4th and Magnuson in the 5th. Maybe TE Michael Roberts in the 7th if things played out that way?

  5. Russell says:

Some great prospects still on the board. OG Dorian Johnson, CB/S Desmond King, S Eddie Jackson, S Donald Payne (keeping with the small school picks) TE Bucky Hodges, LB Vince Biegal, LB Ben Gedeon, CB Jack Tocho, LB eric Wilson, DE Deatrich Wise, DE Evan Schwon, etc.
I don’t look to pick a WR, (but Switzer is still there), LB, CB/S most likely.
I look for BB to move up to 119 in the 4th, (highest he can go, 118 forfeit) IF he’s targeting a player.

  6. Stephen J says:

    Still many good players available.

This may not be popular among most but the Pats where also sniffing around at G. (IF) they do decide to choose a G two to watch for is Dorian Johnson and Isaac Asiata. Isaac Asiata played OT and G but also could play Center and visited the Pats. I think it is less likely now that Antonio Garcia was selected but I wouldn’t totally rule it out.

The most likely target at 131 would be Safety. The two that stand out currently is Desmond King and Xavier Woods. If either one of those is taken then look for Kai Nacua. He was a ball hawk with 14 Int’s during his career at BYU has good hands could be a returner on special teams. He is 6’01 216 had a 6.87 3 cone 39″ vert. for those that aren’t familiar with him. The Pats scouted him heavily(Harvey Langi’s teammate) and had him in for a visit.

Larger DE’s: One that is still available is Carl Lawson of Clemson he has fallen(Medical Issues could be the culprit here)(Reminds me of Grady Jarrett and his fall) Deatrick Wise Jr according to Mike Reiss Doug Kyed and Mike Loyko could be a target. Hunter Dimick Jeremiah Ledbetter and Joe Mathis are other possibilities that could be in play at the 183 pick area. Samson Ebukam could be in play here as well if they decided to trade back but since Derek Rivers was taken he maybe off as an option.

The last pick is a crap shoot so many different directions can be taken here(TE,LB,CB,WR). Best Available Player at those positions. It also could be used to combine it with pick 183 to move up to take a DE or even pick 131 to grab that one player they are targeting.

At LB one player that comes to mind is Eric Wilson. One CB that comes to mind is Xavier Coleman who athletically is an Ahkello Witherspoon clone. He also kept both Cooper Kupp and John Ross to under 70 yards.

One of many WR’s that I’m keeping my eye on is Mack Hollins not necessarily for the Pats just in general to see where he goes. How about Chad Hansen still being on the board. The TE’s still on the board Jake Butt Bucky Hodges Jordan Leggett and George Kittle where do they start coming off at.

Still a lot more intrigue left.

Well those are my thoughts for day 3 of the draft. Enjoy everybody.

    • Ryan says:

      A few things to note:

Carl Lawson, like Hunter Dimick, is dropping in part due to short arms. 31.5 inch arms are going to make his life difficult against larger OTs and teams know that.

Comparing Coleman to Witherspoon, even when it’s only athletically, is not a great idea. Different players with different body types and play styles yield results that mean different things. I don’t think that the two will fill similar roles in the NFL.

Chad Hansen seems like a tools player who needs to develop as a receiver, and I would’ve only taken him over one other receiver taken yesterday (Chad Williams). An abundance of polished receivers means that Hansen needed to test superbly to go in the first two days, and his numbers were good but not great. He’ll be selected early on Day 3.

      • Stephen J says:

Just pointing out the facts Ryan. They are identical athletically. What you do with the facts is up to you but it doesn’t change the fact that they athletically tested the same. Just because identical twins aren’t both right handed doesn’t stop them from being identical twins. I didn’t say stylistically they are similar or the same. I didn’t say physically they are the same just athletically.

  7. Yohy says:

Taking a moment to look at the big picture, these two picks and any that they keep tomorrow ( I guess today) are not going to contribute this season.

To me the guys that need to perform are Kony Ealy and Cooks. I’m confident Cooks will be fine but Ealy has been inconsistent. Unfortunately if he does have a good year then he’s a goner because the Pats probably won’t pay.

We were told Jones had to go so that Collins , Butler and Hightower could get paid.
Well Collins is gone and it seems that they can’t wait to get rid of Butler.

In a very deep defensive draft I would have liked them to pick up a highly rated DE and LB maybe a SAF and OT.

I will rely on Mikes analysis and trust these two picks will pan out.

I guess we will see a bunch of UDFA this year

    • steve earle says:

Often guys drafted in this range start appearing in plays from scrimmage at times around Nov. O-line is an exception provided no disasters. Still hoping Joe Mathus comes down to #131. Ealy is a rent-a-DE most likely I agree but can see us through. I like Garcia he provides some depth at OT/OG. Keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

    • td says:

Moved Jones and Collins out to make room for Jimmy G in 2018 when they may have to franchise him. Also proved to themselves and rest of league you don’t need a slew of top players and their salaries to have a good, competitive defense.

  8. steve earle says:

Okay I found out. Bill traded the #72 and #200 to Tenn for Tenn #83 ans #124.
    Selected Rivers with #83.
Traded #92/?96 and #124 to Det. for #85
    Selected Garcia with #85.

    • Yohy says:

So they gave up 3 picks for 2.

      • steve earle says:

Yes but apparently Bill thinks Garcia has more value then anyone they could have gotten with that #124. Only time will tell but I did notice that myself.

  9. steve earle says:

Now what the heck happened to out #92????? For crying out loud can’t those talking heads keep anything stright

    • Stephen J says:

It was pick 96 and that was combined with pick 124 to move back up to 85 to select OT Antonio Garcia.

      • Stephen J says:

I just rewatched DraftBreakdowns video of Antonio Garcia vs Clemson 2016. Man is he a beast he pancaked a couple of guys threw several guys to the ground plays until the whistle. Then read where he didn’t give up a sack all last year. Nice to say the least.

        • steve earle says:

Yea I like the Garcia pick just was looking for a pure DE. Rivers more OLB size I’m thinking which is okay. Now I’m hoping BB can get up to where he can nab Joe Mathus for that DE tomorrow.

      • Stephen J says:

We acquired the 124th pick along with pick 83 from Tennessee when they moved up to pick 72. We also shipped them the 200th pick in that deal as well.

      • steve earle says:

Right I managed to track it down too but thanks for your effort, much appreciated. Don’t know how I was thinking #92, should have known better.

  10. Stephen J says:

22 More Picks until the Pats pick at 131

  11. EdgeX says:

Usually I’m extremely disappointed by this point. However, I like the pick of DE Rivers and OT Garcia – two major needs that also provides extra depth.

Now if only they could pick TE Bucky Hodges or S Desmond King in the 4th…

Really wished we had took DE Jordan Willis at 72 though…

    • Daniel Sullivan says:

I agree I am quite happy with those two selections felt sure they both would be gone in
      second round.

    • steve earle says:

Agree with you Edge. I was starting to get worried when thay traded and then the DE’s were going off the board but Rivers has some up side. Didn’t expect an OT but Garcia is a good one. Still don’t know the trade details or what happened to our #92? Have to scrool down to see if any enlightenment.

  12. macspak says:

John Johnson gone and so am I – a good night!

  13. Glenn says:

did I miss something? giants win the superbowl?

  14. JH says:

    What are our updated picks?

  15. Mike Gerken says:

I need a moment. Kareem Hunt goes one pick after the Patriots pick. deep breaths.

    • Turbo says:

Tell me about it. Basham went to the Colts 2 pick before us.

      • Mike Gerken says:

I actually liked Rivers a little better, so I am happy with that pick. I like both picks actually. I knew Hunt was not going to be a Patriot after they signed Gillislee, but it still hurts.

        • Turbo says:

I like both Basham and Rivers and i’m happy with the pick, but i think Basham would’ve been a better fit. He was my number 1 (realistic) player for 72.

        • steve earle says:

Yea I hear you. Willis went #73 to Cinn, then Wormley #74 to Balt and the Daeshon Hill #78 to Car. @#*!:&~%$: !!!! Still it worked out, but!

      • Stephen J says:

I was ok with Basham because Rivers was still on the board those were the 2 I was targeting wasn’t sure which one the Pats liked more or which one would fall but both were targets of theirs

  16. JH says:

So do we have any more picks left today? I’m completely lost at this point lol

  17. macspak says:

    Russell,

How does Garcia compare to Holden

  18. Stephen J says:

Mike just became a KC fan

  19. JH says:

WOAH we’re on the clock again… I’m thinking either Antonio Garcia or a tight end (Bucky Hodges? Jake Butt?)

  20. EdgeX says:

    Patriots Trade…I won’t ruin it… 🙂

  21. JH says:

    Wow nailed that one

  22. Russell says:

CB Desmond King, S Eddie Jackson, or OT Will Holden

  23. td says:

It would be nice if people following on twitter go to another website

  24. JH says:

At this point hoping for Derek Rivers from Youngstown State

  25. Stephen J says:

    And there it is

  26. Turbo says:

Trading back 10 spots when you need DE and there are players who fits perfectly and are great value. Really hate this about BB. Trying to outsmart everyone, but in the end he’s mostly right.

Still i’m furious like in every year.

  27. Stephen J says:

    Here we go guys

  28. JH says:

    WHY DID THEY TRADE BACK

  29. EdgeX says:

CRAP and Basham goes to the Colts…guess we don’t need a DE at all this year.

  30. Russell says:

Missed Jordon Willis….GEEEEEE, Wormley too……. Desmond King still on the board

  31. td says:

Uh Oh getting close to another trade down for Pat’s LOL

  32. Yohy says:

Truly disappointed and disgusted that the Patriots traded down. Now all the DE and LB are gone. Bill finds a way to piss off every Pats fan at draft time. When they do pick I’m sure it will be a punter or kicker or freaking long snapper.

    Arrrgggghhhhh!!!!

  33. EdgeX says:

FYI: If you guys want up to the second updates when players are drafted follow Jeff Howe on twitter. He’s posting the selections about 5+ minutes before showing on the networks.

  34. Mike Gerken says:

Hate to see Wormley and Anzalone gone. Like Riley. Not sure why Atlanta would take him, seems like the same player as Jones.

  35. Russell says:

    CB Desmond King or Wormley

  36. EdgeX says:

    ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

WHY COULDN’T THE PATRIOTS TAKE JORDAN WILLIS AT 72!?!? WHY!

    btw Hi.

  37. Ryan says:

Well, the Pats could’ve had Willis but traded down. Strange times.

  38. JH says:

I can’t believe Willis fell that far… I wanted the Pats to get him so bad, can’t believe they traded back with him on the board still

  39. Stephen J says:

We gave up pick 72 and 200 for pick 83 and 124

  40. td says:

Wormley and Tim Williams still left.

  41. macspak says:

so who might be available at 83

  42. td says:

Any good kickers left Mike? LOL

  43. Mike Gerken says:

I think the Pats trade down. Damn

  44. Stephen J says:

And their it is just as you said Mike

  45. td says:

Celtics up by 29 end of third Q

  46. Mike Gerken says:

Ooooh, Smoot goes. Definitely thought he was a possibility. Moreau, Rivers, Basham are just a few guys still on the board. Shock the world and take my guy Hunt?

  47. macspak says:

Smoot, one of yours Mike? Your RB binkie still is there.

  48. Glenn says:

    McMillan drafted yet?

  49. td says:

Realistically, who the hell do they pick that might make the team? Trade down/out and pick up the UDFA’s he always gets.

  50. Glenn says:

    we are back

  51. Mike Gerken says:

Shit! I really liked Witherspoon. That is a shame.

  52. Stephen J says:

We get Kony Ealy Panthers get Taylor Moton at pick 64

    • macspak says:

Ealy is an enigma. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is a bust or a major contributor

      • Stephen J says:

I agree with you on that waiting to see which Ealy shows up the Super Bowl Ealy or the other Ealy

  53. Mike Gerken says:

Run on Oline here. I know a lot of people on here were high on Moton. I liked Dawkins a lot. Getting closer to the Patriots trading down.

  54. Stephen J says:

    Nice Pick for the Packers

  55. Mike Gerken says:

Sorry, I am trying to get these kids to bed. Should be able to get back on here in a few minutes

  56. td says:

More and more BB is clearing the way to keep Jimmy G next year and beyond with all the low priced guys via trade and salaries of first and second round picks this year. That or he is the greatest poker player ever.

Great seeing back to back gods from my alma mater, Syracuse; Floyd Little and Jim Brown

    • macspak says:

if Brady remains healthy and productive it will be difficult due to money and JG’s desire to start

  57. Stephen J says:

There goes one of my earlier OL that I liked when I started scouting this year.

  58. Turbo says:

It would have been so nice to take Cunningham or McMillan…just a bit more drop. Well now it’s all about EDGE fat 72 for me. Basham or Willis if possible, but i’m good with Rivers as well.

  59. Stephen J says:

So far only 2 of my players have been taken and getting closer to the Pats 1st pick

    • macspak says:

if we want DE, DL, LB or OT the draft is unfolding nicely. If we want a CB or S, not so much. Which of your two are off the board?

      • Stephen J says:

Tyus Bowser and Marcus Maye which I expected them to go in the middle of the 2nd so wasn’t really disappointed but still held out some hope but also know there is so many that someone will be there.

  60. Stephen J says:

Am I spoiling anything for you guys if I am I will stop.

  61. Stephen J says:

Giants select one of Russell’s guys

  62. Stephen J says:

Dolphins select a decent player that some Pats fans have liked.

  63. Stephen J says:

The Lions take another CB that Pats had in for a visit. The former Pats Scouts now GM’s competing for Patriots players.

  64. Stephen J says:

Browns select a QB that will silence the Jimmy G talk at least for a little bit.

    • macspak says:

worth a flyer for the Browns here. They have so many picks that if he doesn’t work out no big deal

  65. macspak says:

Floyd Little just announced Denver’s pick. Used to love watching him play

  66. Mike Gerken says:

Who is at the top of everybody wish list right now?

  67. Stephen J says:

    Yes Thank You Redskins

  68. Mike Gerken says:

Lots of guys I like coming off the board now.

  69. Stephen J says:

    Loyko got Cincinnati pick right

  70. Stephen J says:

Ravens just took one of the guys I like

  71. macspak says:

Wow! Seems awfully high for Shaheen

    • Mike Gerken says:

Damn, really like Shaheen. Was hoping he would fall to us. That is 2 guys off my short list. dang

      • Stephen J says:

I wasn’t as high on Shaheen. He is going to struggle big time, when he went against guys his size he was totally shut out/down. Not to mention he is raw. He may develop over time nicely but 2nd round way to early in my opinion.

  72. macspak says:

my next binkie is BC S Johnson. I mocked him in 5th but I saw recent mocks having him late 3rd and early 4th

  73. Mike Gerken says:

Damn, the first guy I really wanted for the Pats goes to Philly.

  74. Stephen J says:

There goes Sidney Jones to Philadelphia

  75. macspak says:

NFL is talking S Jones going here – noooooo

  76. macspak says:

Lamp finally went. I was surprised at the WR the Bills took. I can’t imagine Webb and Kizer don’t go soon.

    • Stephen J says:

I wasn’t surprised at Zay Jones to Buffalo his former coach is one of the offensive coaches in Buffalo now

  77. macspak says:

have had 2 or 3 trades but not for QB’s.

  78. Mike Gerken says:

    hey mac,
good to see you are still around
was surprised to see Samuel go before cook. Lots of of Safeties going here. Need more QB’s to get picked

  79. macspak says:
