2015 NFL Draft: Patriots Select Joe Cardona (LS, Navy)

NEPD Editor: James Christensen

If there was ever a draft pick tailor-made for Bill Belichick, it is Joe Cardona. The former high-school lacrosse player is a long-snapper from Navy, where Belichick learned the game from his father.

With Danny Aiken not on the roster anymore, the Patriots had a need for a specialist to join Ryan Allen and Stephen Gostkowski. Cardona snaps the ball at over 41 miles-per-hour, the fastest ever tested. At 6’2″ and 242 pounds, he is a bit undersized covering punts, but is more than willing to take on blockers and returners.

Perhaps the biggest hurdle to Cardona’s career will be gaining dispensation from the Navy to forego his five-year commitment.

You have to be freaking kidding me.

  2. Ryan says:

Upside: This guy’s snapping speed could save us a few blocked punts and kicks in the future.

Downside: Our kicking and punting teams may have to retrain in order to catch his zingers.

  3. Kevan says:

    Good pick
