2014 Patriots NFL Draft: Day 1 Open Thread

The Patriots are in good hands for the 2014 NFL Draft.

NEPD Editor: James Christensen

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we are actually going to have the 2014 NFL Draft tonight after a long and arduous journey. Will it be worth the wait?

Chime in below on any of the following questions or ask your own!

Should the Texans actually draft Jadeveon Clowney?

Is a third-round pick too little for Ryan Mallett? What compensation should they ask for?

What sort of package would make you give your seal of approval to a trade out of the first round?

Finally, give us your final Patriots mock draft of the season!

Ja’Wuan James and Marcus Smith are the two big reaches in this draft, imo.

Pats taking Easley at 29 is the pick most likely to ’cause remorse and “what could have been” thoughts down the road. It’s absolutely mind-blowing how they didn’t learn from the Ras-I debacle and took an even bigger risk with Easley, with players like Bitonio, Su’a Filo, Tuitt, Nix, Lawrence, Lee, etc, etc, etc all still out there.

Absolutely dejected by this pick. Pats will come regret this sooner than later, imo. There is a word for those who don’t learn from their own mistakes.

    Let the melting commence!

If Haha Clinton Dix falls a few more spots to say 23-24 do you trade up to go get him?

  4. AM says:

If Donald drops into the 20s, trade up to get him. If Bridgewater is available at #29, take him unless there’s a king’s ransom in other picks available. Reach a little for Austin Seferian-Jenkins, and grab him at #29 unless there’s someone significantly better at a position of need available.

Other than that, best player available, and let the games begin. :)

At last! Well, sort of, considering the thing doesn’t end till Saturday (I’m assuming).

I look forward to later on tonight when they inform us the Pats have traded out of the first for a 2nd, a 3rd and change. They can pick up a DL and a center with their second round picks, and add on a safety in the 3rd.

Pet gripe: NFL channel’s coverage of the draft is focused almost exclusively on Clowney and Manziel. Can’t they talk about *anyone else*???

Without any super-glaring holes, the Pats don’t have to get desperate and reach like they have at the safety position the last couple of years. They almost blew the Chandler/Hightower draft with the Wilson pick, which was only salvaged by the selection of Dennard in the 6th. Or was it the seventh?

Listen to the scouts, BB. Listen to the scouts!

I’d trade out of the 1st round for the the team’s 1st rd pick next year and their second or third rounder this year…..I’m not the biggest fan of mock drafts, after the first ten picks or so its like trying to count grains of sand…..the patriots need to address 2 of the following 3 positions with their first 2 selections, DE, LB, and TE
